First of all apologies if this is posted in wrong forum.

I am looking for advice on how to proceed.

Recently bought a car online, 68 reg Skoda Kodiaq which I’ve collected today.

Throughout the whole sale process I’ve enquired about service history and was told verbally that it’s last serviced April this year.

Salesman said he have sent printout of service history but haven’t received it. He is off today so I’ve called up supplying dealership to ask and was told they are busy and someone would call me back.

I’ve popped into my mate who runs local garage and he checked on his system. According to Erwin there are only a few entries for the car logged. First one is for the initial PDI (car was registered around Jan 2019) and few other entries were for April 21 this year. Looking at what was done (oil & pollen filter) it’s probably for first service. However the mileage entered was 5 miles. Which is odd as car somehow did 18k miles over 4 months.

I checked the cars infotainment system but can’t find anywhere which shows service history.

I am thinking of booking it in for a service anyway, but a bit concerned about this. I am thinking that it could be a typo for the entry in April 21 as that sounds like a time for service?

In my mind there are 2 possible explanations:
1) Mileage entered incorrectly in April 21. I am really hoping this is the case.
2) Car only did 5 miles in first year then 18k in four months (from April 21).

Really hoping to get an honest answer soon. Car is lovely but the dealership experience is horrible.

They probably forgot to put the 1 in front of the 5, so basically it was serviced at 15k.

On Erwin it was showing as “5 miles”.
2 entries were for warranty work and the first one for PDI.

I’ve requested service history in writing from the salesman, said he emailed it but I haven’t received. He is off today so have to catch him tomorrow.

I’ve phone service department who initially said they will email over, but called back after few hours and they said I have to deal with the salesman.

Something doesn’t feel right here. Surely the supplying dealer should provide me with service history in writing?
I was told there is no booklet as everything is done online.

You missed you chance to say, when they called back and gave you that flannel: "not good enough, let me speak to the dealer principal" (or equivalent) Sounds like they're pulling a fast one. Keep badgering all day tomorrow until you're satisfied. Meanwhile check your spam folders.

It sounds like the 5 miles is a mistaken entry.

Let us know if you manage to get this changed.

I encountered a mistake on the date of a service and the Skoda dealer was unable to rectify it. (Found out a year later it was wrong)

It annoyed me until the day I sold the car.

I am trying to be civil until I get to the bottom of this.
I can tell that the car was initially sold at another Skoda dealership before ending up with current dealership.

Sounds like someone messed up but why hasn’t this been picked up during sales process. This, to me, sounds like someone is trying to cover up something.

But concerning but I will keep pushing and escalate if required.

Edit: I’ve tripped checked my spam folders but nothing.
He told me on the phone yesterday (3pm) and again reply in email (5pm) that he has sent it.
I don’t understand why can’t anyone else assist in his absence though.

I will keep this thread updated.
I wouldn’t be too fussed if it’s minor mistake, but this is a serious discrepancy.

You don’t say where the car was serviced. If it was serviced at the dealership that you’ve bought it from, you have a problem because it appears as though they know the issue but won’t or can’t amend the record. If it was serviced elsewhere find out where and speak to them and explain the issue.

Without that, you’ve bought a car with FSH with a whole heap of miles driven since it was last serviced. You should also be able to see what mileage and on number of days that the next service is due on the onboard computer.

Whether there's a discrepancy or not, FWIW my experience is that it's not possible to amend an entry on the VAG Erwin digital service records retrospectively.

I am not sure where the car is serviced. I do have the booklet that shows where the car was originally purchased (and previous owner details...) which is not the dealership that I've bought it from. I will find this out once I get to speak to the salesman (he seems to be very hard to get hold of). Perhaps I should just take a chance and give the dealership car was originally purchased tomorrow a call. Not too sure they would release service history to someone not known to them though.

I can see the service indicator in the car. I believe the service schedule is 18kmiles or 1 year, whichever is sooner.
Judging by the remaining days/miles it does indicate that the car could be last serviced in April 21, as recorded on Erwin.

That is a shame, it would show a massive discrepency in the service history then.
Really don't understand why there is no more paper service booklets with dealer stamps. Online system doesn't seem to be any good.

Got an email today advising that there had been admin error in the service history and they will contact dealer that serviced it to rectify.
Surprised this wasn't picked up earlier Also proved that the salesman was bullstting when he said he sent service history over other day.
Shocking experience, which put me off Skoda brand. This is a large SE group as well so was expecting better.

So the dealership is now ignoring my emails and calls.

Not too sure how to proceed here, should I just let it go?
If I service my car when it's next due, it should put things right I hope.

Just let it go, if they can't answer simple questions then how will they deal with any warranty work?

Yeh, not worth the aggravation I suppose.
The car is a good'un but the dodgy dealership experience definitely left sour taste.
I suppose this is the same with all major car dealerships these days frown

It doesn’t help you now but you really have to check these things out before buying the car, I’ve learnt this the hard way too.

Unfortunately you can’t take the dealers word on anything, you need to see the service records yourself. I was looking at buying an Octavia recently and my local dealer service dept were happy to give me the full service record for the car so always worth checking yourself.

If the dealer has gone quiet best to send another email but copy in the dealer principle or equivalent, this has usually sparked better service for me in the past.

Yes, my bad for not insisting of having a copy of the service history. I just took the salesman's word that it's good.
He told me multiple times it is, until I found out on my own that it isn't. This is really poor show imo.
On the bright side, the car is in a good nick, even have new-ish matching branded tyres which is a bonus.

Not too sure how I copy in dealer principle, as I cannot find any email details.

Try Googling to find the name, maybe there is an ‘about us’ section on their website listing the staff? If you can get the name then you can work out their email address if you already have the email format from another email.

It’s really poor they behave like this, a main dealer should be the one you can trust the most.

Give the garage a call and ask for the name and email from whoever answers the phone.

Tried both the Skoda and group dealership website, no names and only email is the general enquiry email.
Even if I know the DP name I cannot work out the email, as the email from the salesperson is via a proxy email address (firstname+lots of random characters@reply.rapidresponse.global). Probably because this was triggered from website enquiry.

In the end it could be a simple admin error but I don't like how the salesperson lied and only confessed there is an issue after I've found out myself.
Just doesn't sit right with me, but not sure if it's even worth pursuing.
