Colleague is looking for an SUV type thing that’s not too big, must have camera and sensors.

Needs to have a bit of grunt for the motorway, not from the traffic lights.

Ideally ULEZ compliant.

Not too bothered about economy as long as it has a large tank.

I was thinking

Lexus RX350

XC60

But it’s open forum.

Budget approx £8grand. Probably budget creep to 9).

Ok, nothing less than a 2 litre. Ideally more, but finding that and ULEZ is tricky. Mpg isn’t critical as long as there’s a larger tank so the range isn’t too short. My gut feeling is range needs to be 300+ miles.

Unnecessary, imho, so I have nothing for you.

(I didn't find my 1.2 Ateca lacking for motorway work in any way. Pretty frugal too.

Within the parameters, this seems to tick all the boxes. Bit boring looking though.

I guess you mean 1.4? Daughter has the 3cyl 1 litre Ateca and it drives perfectly well - actually almost amazing for what it is.

I'm not up on prices but don't think these would be £8K yet though.

RX400H or a leggy RX450H. Recommend on spending out on a Catlock for the RX400H or its sister car the RX350. The 450H seems to suffer less cat theft, probably it is less accessible. The 350 is in the top VED band.

Kuga 2.5T if you can find one.

I would be a little wary of older diesels that are somehow showing as ULEZ compliant today but could get "corrected" in the future.

The £8K budget vs genuine SUV body type vs ULEZ compliance vs current used car market prices vs camera and sensors, doesn't leave much of a solution set other than mainly old, high VED and very thirsty petrol SUVs.

Edit: please ignore these first ones if too big.

BMW X3/X5 3.0i or 4.6/4.8s (gulp)
L322 Range Rover 4.4 or maybe a 4.2 supercharged
Range Rover Sport 4.2
Merc ML 350 or 500
Audi Q7 <<something petrol ?>>
Subaru Tribeca (if you like the looks!),
Mazda CX-7 - has a MPS engine

Other more cooking stuff that is a bit smaller:

Honda CRV 2.0i
Toyota RAV-4
Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.4
Other random JDM imports

Crossovers (more scope here and you can get newer):
Hyundai X35
Crossovers? e.g. Qashqai, Renault Captur
Dacia Duster!

For a proper SUV I think the Lexus 350 is a good shout personally and budget for 20mpg and £585 VED. I'd personally consider a leggy 450H if I could convince myself the cat wasn't at risk.

Will be interested to see what others come up with.

I guess I do. The current Leon estate is 1.2. Also fine for motorway driving. Atecas seem to be £10k plus, yes.

The answer is the Infinti EX 3.0d In GT Premium spec they come with 360 Cameras Adaptive Cruise etc & are ULEZ compliant:

If it needs to be auto you can rule out the CR-V.
