Why do we have to accept poor customer service from car dealers due to COVID?. Buying a car used to be a pleasure, now it’s a ball ache. Salespeople are making moola, but they are a bunch of bellends.

You don't have to. Assuming you're a free agent, take your money elsewhere or don't buy a new car during a worldwide pandemic. I wouldn't buy a new car from anyone I didn't trust, as they'll be looking after when something inevitably goes awry.

So what has made it a ball ache, we need more detail to be able to respond with wisdom and hindsight.

This is applicable not to just car dealers, but any fker at the minute that seems to be using the old “due to COVID” as an excuse for ste service.

It’s great at the moment!

Bought a few weeks back and booked a test drive via email, car waiting for me fully prepared and pulled out from the lot enabling me to give it a good look around before entering the dealership. No accompanied test drive - told to have fun and bring it back in 45 minutes, enabled me to have a proper test drive it on a variety of roads, none of this 5 minute, can’t veer from the approved test route malarkey. Deal done in minutes, great price for the trade in and all sorted to pick up the following week.

Well done Peugeot, got it bang on.

Hope it stays this way.

The simple answer is to not accept ste service & take your custom elsewhere there are lots of dealers giving good service just use one of those.

I'm very VERY close to doing this at the moment.

Awful service from a dealer who doesn't send important info through when they say they will, doesn't reply to emails, doesn't return phone calls, doesn't keep the customer up to date, and seems to have lost interest since the deposit was transferred. This is on a new £70k car.

I've now been waiting almost 3 weeks for a car in stock in their showroom. Tomorrow will be D-Day as I've had enough now. Either guarantee a handover date or I'll go elsewhere.

Thankfully it's all been done remotely.

I'd already be gone, I bet you could find one at a dealer who's actually interested in your custom.

Done. And got a better deal on a better spec'd car, in a better colour. And far closer to home.

They've more achieved in one morning than the previous dealer did in 3 weeks.

Bought a car for my Wife, video showed all we needed, wife smitten. Upon delivery, only one key( video showed 2).FSH as per advert , no book upon delivery, no foot pedal rubbers. Luckily my son was on hand to receive the car, heard person delivering arguing with dealer . Evans Halshaw. Have escalated this , still have no reply. Call me a Mug, but this is piss poor. Salesperson is a coward and avoids E mails etc. What a complete tt.

Depending on the make, many now have no service books, only digital service history.

I hear you... definitely worse experience as dealers know that they can get business easily elsewhere.

My recent experience was horrible, lies after lies and also trying to cover up dodgy service history.
I suppose I should've insisted on seeing the service history before putting down the deposit.

If the dealership is close to you worth driving there and going straight to the salesman so he cant hide anymore, or demanding to see a manager who most likely doesnt know what has happened.
