Oh what a cock up I’ve made, I assumed the panic and shortages would be over by now and now I can’t buy a new car that I want without a 4-6m lead time.

Not after any sympathy, just a heads up to those in their last year of a lease - get to the dealership now and see what your options are!!

Found myself in similar predicament to OP earlier this year. Ended up buying my lease car direct from lease company for an incredibly good price. Way under market value.
