Hi all,

I am looking to sell my Tesla Model 3 Performance in a couple of months after a final road trip to the south of France. I have had it for two years, and feel like I am spending most of my life waiting for the next warranty repair. I am terrified of the day that the warranty runs out and I need to start funding the repair of such a badly made car out of my own pocket.

Before the Tesla I had a Lotus Elise, which I reluctantly (and perhaps wrongly) sold as I was stopping working from home. I am now back to working from home about 2 days per week, with a dream commute on B-roads through the Peak District moorland. Ultimately, I want to get the Lotus / Alpine collaboration in a few years when it comes out, but I'm looking for something to tide me over in the meantime.

I am looking for something which is:
  • First and foremost, fun.
  • Unusual.
  • Preferably reasonably fast.
  • Won't depreciate much, and if possible, has potential to increase in value.
  • Costs anywhere between £5,000 and £20,000.
  • Is reasonably reliable.
  • Isn't too bad in the wet.
  • Can be kept without a garage.
My mind is all over the place. I have been thinking about a mark 2 GTI, a GT86, and everything in between.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

SLK55 or a 370Z were the first things to spring to mind.

Unless you need rear seats in which case the usual culprits of Golf GTi, Focus ST, Leon Cupra, S3, M140i all apply.

Cheers,

Chris

S2 Elise or a VX220 Turbo would be my choice, although it pains me to view what they cost now (as usual values seem to have skyrocketed since i sold my 111s).

Another shout on a relative budget may be a supercharged MX5. Whilst hardly the most uncommon car ever a mk1 still brings a smile to most peoples faces and I can't see a well looked after version losing any money whatever the mileage.

208 GTI you can get a nice one for around 6k they won't depreciate much & you'll have a cracking steer while you wait for the Lotus:

The good thing with these is that by the time the Lotus/Alpine is out the 208 will owe you next to nothing & will make a great practical second car.

How about...
...370z
Infiniti G37 (mechanicals a la 370z, different wrapper, small rear seats too)
M135i/140i
MX-5 NC with the folding hard top (maybe try to find a BBR tuned one)
GT86/BRZ
Abarth 124
