My work has moved and I may have to get a more efficient car.
There is a 15-20 mile commute each way which could be motorway or B road. The cost of parking is based on the emissions..
I don't want anything too big as we already have an SUV and I also don't want to break the bank.

What sort of thing would you suggest?
Fiesta? and the ilk?

Can you expand on exactly what the emissions - parking fee linkage is? And what's the situation on older cars?

Since you mention B-roads and already having an SUV, I'd suggest a lightweight sports car. Mk3 MR2, MX-5, Elise, VX220, that sort of thing. Since they're light they tend to have reasonable CO2 emissions, and (assuming light traffic) I'd think the best possible way to start each day would be tackling a nice B-road in one of those.

However an EV is a good shout too, depends on priorities.

Depends on the budget. I'd be looking at something like a Swift Sport or Up GTI.

In order to give you some ideas then you need to tell us your budget.

not sure on the budget yet,
£3-3500 ? or £150/m pcp?

we don't know what's happening with the o/hs job so don't want to commit a wedge. I was on similar routes in my 172 today which was fine , but that needs a bit of work :-(

You'll get an Alfa Mito Veloce 140 with sensible emission numbers & a decent amount of go for the Motorway/B Road work:

With a C02 of below 130g/km the Alfa is very hard to beat when you're looking at go age spec & being suited to motorway driving.

£150 a month on finance over 48 months with 0 deposit and an APR of around 10% is more like £6000 on hire purchase or conditional sale.

got some more info
the bands for parking emissions look like they are
<100
100 - 185
185 - 225
>225

the 172 is in the 185-225 band , realistically I don't think I will be getting below 100..
I have just ordered 4 new tyres for the 172 so am thinking I will run that into the ground whilst keeping an eye out. Its going to cost me a lot more to change than any parking charges and or better consumption will cover..
