M2 OG Prices / Cayman R / Audi R8 / F-Type V6 manual
Discussion
Would like to hear what people think will be more sought after in 4 years time, and why? Aand also which would loose the least amount in depreciation if adding 10k miles every year.
OrIginal M2 in manual form
Cayman R in manual
Audi R8 Manual
F-Type V6 Manual
Also would like to hear if you all think M2 prices are a bit silly at mo - especially when you consider an R8 can be had for more or less the same price (yes the running costs and daily factor probably comes into play).
But as long as you have a decent driveway I assume an R8 will always be the one to go for? Despite the running costs?
Who would have which? And why?

M2 is out based on traditional curves still too new
R8 I would guess is a base of its curve thus if we follow most supercar trends I’d expect a rise.
I’m talking about depreciation curves
I’d tend to look towards the cars value new but take into effect if it was produced now (inflation) eg the R8 was something like £60k but a new one is £100k, thus I think it’s the most expensive, but expensive and desirable. The R8 again is the oldest and road reviews show it to be good and recent road tests show it to still be good as a used buy.
I think people will / do look for how special a car is. R8 ticks most boxes, it’s flash, V8 , low , wide but I hear it’s not too difficult to live with.
The Jaguar is more sports car than supercar thus potentially less desirable. For me it wouldnt feel as special as mid engined car
M2 could be seen as hotted up coupe
Porsche 911 seem to hold value but values of cayman don’t appear to rise as radically if at all. I think the GT4 would be an exception.
Summary R8 would lose you less money, however may cost more to run / service / fix. Normally however depreciation is the biggest cost , and fuel / servicing costs are much less. However people often forget depreciation because you don’t save/realise the total cost until you actually sell a vehicle
These aren’t all my views, personally I like all of them.

Not had any.. but my order of preference I would pick:
Cayman R
F-Type V6S
Audi R8
BMW M2
Nice selection, not a duff option in there.
The Cayman R. It already has a £10k to £15k premium over the PDK Cayman R, and I would imagine that will be maintained or increase further as ICE are replaced. They are very rare.Cayman R
F-Type V6S
Audi R8
BMW M2

I would expect all of the manual versions of the above to increase, but none of them have the rarity factor of the Cayman.
M2 prices are indeed nuts.
I really like them and thought that I would be going that way after my M140i, but prices have risen way too much for me. I had a quick look yesterday, and 2016/17 cars are currently commanding really really strong money (as high as £37k from dealers!). These were sub £30k earlier this year.
Personally I prefer the older cars with the N55 because it makes a much better noise than the S55 and I never found my M140i lacking in pace. It was the looks, handling and noise it lacked.
The R8 for me is a hard car to look passed; they've aged really well and are still a fab looking car. The V8 makes a great noise too.

OrIginal M2 in manual form - They made zillions of them to sell on discounted finance.Current prices make no sense and I can't see them holding value long term due to the sheer number of them
Cayman R in manual - Didn't make many, rarely see one. Only problem is that it wasn't really THAT special. More like and S with some extra spec. Still, any limited Porsche will do well long term.
Audi R8 Manual - Think it will be forever worth at least what they are worth now. Could even see the original v8 models being a future supercar classic
F-Type V6 Manual - No. It's just not that special or rare and Jags just tank in price long term (e-type excluded)
Joint first Cayman R or R8 for me. Wouldn't bother with either of the others unless it was an itch that really needed to be scratched with 6 months of ownership.

The order for me is:
Audi R8 - Supercar looks, howling V8 engine, gated manual box. Wonderful.
Cayman R - It's a Porsche and a rare one at that. Your money will be safe here. Not a special car other than that.
OG M2 - Will always get overshadowed by the M2C and not particularly special, rare or great looking.
F-Type - It's a looker for sure, but don't really see what the appeal is other than that. Can't see what the appeal will be 5 years down the line either.
For me, the R8 is head and shoulders above the others in that group.

Completely agree with the above, the R8 is the pick but in all honesty buy the one YOU like the best.
I have been looking at similar cars having recently come into a bit of spare cashR8 - it's a dull Audi
M2 - I'd rather have the 235i some spare cash and fit through narrow gaps, it's a dull BMW
F Type - too big, too heavy and it's a Jag, they break - a mate's at 70k just has, £8k bill
Cayman - always liked them but the bigger engines are too fast to exploit on the road and they have ridiculously long gearing, £8k ish to sort out
So I'm buying a GT86 supercharged, combined with an LSD, short ratios and it's light weight it's the obvious choice and being 2+2 will be used (in my case) far more - sod residuals

Were you genuinely considering an R8, M2, Cayman and F type before alighting on the GT86, though?
Yeh so genuinely bit torn between the four. To be fair, the jag is last on my list even if it looks so good, primarily feels expensive for what it is both peformance wise, and from all the reviews out there.
I really don’t get why the m2 prices have gone ballistic as for me it would have been the best balance between performance, looks and convenience.… I know you can’t buy any more brand new but when a low mileage one costs 36k - I’m like well I might as go for higher mileage R8 which is infinitely more special. But probably not the best car to daily or maintain cost wise. Or spend 6k more get a Cayman R - way more rarer.
I only just discovered Cayman R didn’t have AC or stereo as standard - so that might be a sticking point, as I will be dailying it so I think the entry cost would probably be a bit prohibitive - or I’ll be waiting a long time to find the right spec. cant believe the PDK versions are so much cheaper tho…
So really comes down now I think between M2 or R8. Both great for different reasons… but the priority is really which’ll loose me the least money after running it for five years. I can’t see M2 prices dropping below 20k, and pretty sure it’ll be easy on the wallet to run and maintain.
R8 maybe the cheapest it ever gets is 25k for a high miler? But then high maintenance cost.
As for the GT86 - I’m not sure it feels special enough for me, but each to their own…

Also with the M2 - not sure how accurate it is, but it’s actually a bit rarer than I thought it was. In total there was 1600 pre LCI models in total and 1800 LCI models (excluding the comp) for UK.
So under 3500 in total for UK… I was more under the impression there’ll be at least 10k of them in UK…

Just drive them all and buy the one you like the most. What's a few grand in the scheme of things?
Yeh it’s more than how they drive for me anyway, as I’m pretty sure they all drive as just as good as each other. My decision really comes down to the financial hit I’ll be taking long term, as I won’t be holding back on the miles I put on. If the M2 prices hadn’t gone to the moon, I think I’d prob have gone for that - primarily because of the daily factor. And despite the potential depreciation coming next year. But when an R8 is cheaper to get into than an M2…it becomes a very interesting proposition
