Hi guys

But of background, I have a e46 3.0 which has failed its MOT, it’s served me well and I have repaired it after two write offs so it’s three cars now! And after the costs and doing the work I made my money back so I’m sad to see it go but the rust has taken over!

No I have a work van so only do 3k a year but I live in a rural location and the misses drives a grand vitara, but it’s been plagued with exhaust issues since she’s got it.

Now the plan was to keep mine and the misses to sell hers because my mum is buying an aygo and was going to give me her 2007 X5 (my late fathers)

But after all the work I’ve been doing on car I’ve just had enough now and want to stop working on the old things so much.

I just don’t know what would be a good plan going forward, do I keep the X5 (needs body work probably 1.5k spent on it all in, plus could go pop any minute) then buy a little run around?

I’ve always fancied a Tesla (might get some peoples backs up in here! ) so maybe go all out for my budget and get a model 3 with a little run around but lose the 4x4? Are Tesla’s good in the snow? The misses only works up the road so electric kinda makes sense?

I’m just at a loss now and feeling pretty depressed over cars! Lmao

Firstly you need to workout how much you want actually spend on a car, then you'll be able workout what you're options are.

Tesla will have to be new as for some reason the Model3 SR just does not devalue! 2 year old ones are £2k less than BRAND NEW! CRAZY!

You might get lucky and find a performance with a few thousands off.

EVs are VERY GOOD FUN!!

I can afford a Tesla, which does put me into lots of other maybe more practical cars, but I’ve never bought anything new in my life, I’ve spent most of time under them. Which has saved me a load but it’s getting tiresome now and I just want a quiet life!. I did see a Range Rover evoque mild hybrid which is cheaper and the misses would probably rather that and she could stump up for a run around for the 3k mile a year?

Get an older, high spec, green, full fat Range Rover with plain wheels.

It sounds like a Lexus NX300h F Sport Premium Nav could be a very good option, used Lexus will warranty their cars for 10 years so peace of mind is yours smile

Assuming it's not so deep that your car beaches completely, all cars are good in snow... ...if fitted with the right tyres wink

There are about a million threads (and points of view) on this, but IMO the relatively small investment, compared to the car itself, in a second set of wheels with winter tyres fitted removes the need to compromise which car you buy for the non-snowy 98.5% of the year.

Very true, my e46 however could be fitted tractor tyres with snow chains and would still be a death trap!

That's strange, I've run an E46, E91 and E90 on winter tyres for the last 6 winters and never had a problem with any of them.

It's hard to know what to suggest as you have such a wide range of parameters.

I think you need to narrow the options down a bit, but good luck anyway.

My e46 (as far as I know, just the one car, welded together at the factory wink ) was on the telly one snowy day... it had come in hard about 2 or 3pm, I got out of the village where I was working - once the RR on summer tyres managed to get it self turned around and back down the hill I was waiting to drive up! As I went along the unusually empty DCway, I saw some poor reporter doing a bit to camera in a layby, which I guessed was an ironic piece about how dangerous it was to drive about in snow like this... happened to catch the ITV news later and there I was wink

The OP is looking for a new car, potentially a Model 3, and you're pitching an Accord Type R? confused

Haha, I’ve had a few scary slip and slide insidents in mine, mainly when going up a steep hill as I live in the welsh valleys, people just go too slow and I’ve been forced to overtake in the snow or risk getting stranded, few twitchy bum moments

for 3000 miles a year, if you're happy to spend £40k+ you could buy an EV of course.....

but as a curveball just becasue thats how i roll

Less than £30k get you into a Kia Stinger GTS with 5 years of warranty remaining so you don't need to worry about doing work on it.
