Family wagon required, Mrs Castamere likes the higher seated position of an SUV/4X4/MPV and doesn't like estates.

Current lease expiring in 8 weeks.

Budget could stretch to 18k.

yes Essentials:

- Automatic
- Reversing cam
- FSH
- Ideally no more than 7-8 years old
- Sporty-looking, decent poke under 9s 0-60

scratchchin Desirables

- Android Auto (can retro-fit)
- Mileage sub 80k
- Well kitted out with extras, leather interior etc.

I'm on my second 5008 Peugeot.

Yes its a bit slow but they look much better in the SUV guise than the old MPV version.

I've got the GT trim currently and its lovely inside, outside looks good with the newly designed front, its probably outside the price range you are looking at currently but the 1st gen SUV version should be attainable, i had the GT line in that and its the same pretty much inside, main difference is the front grille.

Both have been autos (6 & latest 8) one diesel 1.6 early one and this time a 1.2, 3 banger petrol.

Deffo worth a look, great for kids with 3 separate rear seats

It’s not an exciting choice but I like my S-Max. Not many autos at £18k perhaps?

A little older but a Nissan Elgrand ticks a lot of boxes:

We had an Smax titanium x auto. Bloody awful! Auto gearbox went after 4years!

Went onto having 2 bmw gran tourer 220d Msport auto xdrives and loved them both.

Now children grown up, don’t require 7seaters any more, but defo worth considering the BMWs, no probs whatsoever with them.

I bought a used gran tourer a few months back. The rear 2 seats are for kids only and eat into the boot space when in use, but for occasional use they are fine

I've been really pleased with the car. From the front two seats it looks and feels like any other BMW and it drives better than most other 7 seaters.

I would think hard before going for an M Sport. The harder suspension doesn't suit the family car drive, and the black headlining inside again in my view doesn't suit a family car. I went for a Sport model, which has the more supportive seats than the SE but the same suspension.

Thanks all... will look into these suggestions... had considered a Gran Tourer and these replies have edged me closer in that regard.

I am a sucker for the Msport look though, hence had it on both my gran tourers.
We had Xdrive on both also, but not sure that was worth paying the extra for.
Super family cars though, comfortable, carry anything and everything and both mine bloody reliable after getting rid of the damn Smax!!
Now onto a M135i, but I do miss the spaciousness and economy of the gran tourer 😂.

Check the space as I'd say they're an occasional 7 seater rather than a dedicated one like the S Max.

I've had both (62 plate S-Max, 65 plate 220d Grand Tourer).

As noted above, the BMW is a little bit smaller, but other than that is better than the ford in every other department.

Engine is better (usual caveats on diesel apply I guess - when I traded ours in I had one brief engine warning which I suspect was due to lots of short journeys for a while). Gearbox is much better and infotainment also a step up.

When we got it, the BMW was one of their ugliest models and now it doesn't look so bad. Ours was a 220D Luxury - rode nicely on 17's with non-RFT.

Cheers
