My dad wrote his trusty XF off a couple of weeks ago and he wants a replacement.

He has about 10k to spend and wants a small little petrol run about. We've been looking at the Toyota Yaris but they seem so expensive atm.

Any suggestions? We may consider something new if that's possible for a couple of k extra.

Time to get something a bit more upright maybe, future proof it for someone getting in to their 70s, make it easier to get in and out of.

Like a Hyundai ix20.

If he wants brand new, a Dacia Sandero is a handsome little car these days.

Yep, the middle spec Sandero is a conspicuous bargain. Both exterior and interior look quite decent in the new model.

I'd go for the Kia Rio First Edition 120 they cost a little more but the spec & performance will make it less of a step down from the XF plus you'll still have 4 years warranty (including the year you get for buying approved used) left to run on the car. They're over budget though.

Nissan Note with a petrol engine, loads around with under 10k miles for under £10000

My retired Mum has an 11yr old one that seems like it might last another 11 years - cheap to run, slightly higher driving position, easy to park.

The Note, Yaris and Jazz are the holy trinity of pensioners cars for a reason!

I tried to convince Dad that he needed to replace his trusty 10 plate A4 Tdi with an X3 M40i.

He was sadly unconvinced

Some great suggestion we went to see a few this afternoon and he quite likes the look of the Clio. The also do a higher up version but I can’t remember the name that could be an option.

Captur. Was the "best" in that type of car for a while until the Seat Arona came out in 2017 I believe.

Kia Soul? My partner's dad has got one and he's 73, he loves it plus if you get a reasonably new one it should have some of the 7 year warranty left.

Why not enter the world of bangernomics ? Spend £500 on a nice 90s/early 00s Golf MK4 and keep the other £9500.
