MrsVS ordered a new Yaris hybrid in August taking advantage of the scrappage scheme for her elderly car (another Yaris) which would have needed an mot in Jan.
We were originally promised delivery before Xmas but have now been told that the new car will not be available until March next year yes 7months...which causes a problem in having to Mot the car to continue to use it while waiting for the now delayed new one. They have offered to pay the cost of the Mot but not for any work needed to pass it which could be substantial hence the scappage option or have said we can drop the car off to them at the end of Jan when the mot runs out.
Any suggestions as how to play this as it took nearly a year for her to make the decision to buy so starting again would be an utter PITA.
At the moment I am thinking we could buy a cheap Moted car to use until the new car is ready and then sell it again but any other suggestions I may not have thought of would be most appreciated...

Book your current yaris in for a pre mot to see if it will pass, if it will nothing to worry about.

If it will fail ask the garage to price up to see if its cost effective to keep it running another 7 months.

Buy something cheap and cheerful with more than 7 months mot on if not.

If the dealers paying for mot, get it in soonest then you'll know what your options are. You may even get advisories now that would fail in January. If you fail I think you still have mot till January...

MOT it at the cost to the garage. If it needs work pay for the work. The garage doesn't build the new car and you are responsible for yours. Seems pretty simple.

I believe that there's still a shortage of computer chips and that general supply chain problems may last well into 2023 and beyond. Have you not read the news at all in the last 18 months?

It's great to hear that you're not having to pay for the cost of the MOT though. A good news story when many others are experiencing far lengthier delays or just having their orders cancelled!

Toyota like all car manufacturers are struggling. Toyota recently announced a production cut by 40%

We ordered our Corolla back in June and were told mid August.

We took delivery 2 weeks ago - thats 5 months and things have worsened a lot since then apparently

Nothing you or the dealer can do really. Maybe get the car checked and fixed up because theres every possibility that March will come and go also.

It’s a Yaris it will go straight through, normal issues are exhausts and cloudy headlights
