I don't have time to go round dealerships and there is a ton of vehicles that can be delivered on Auto Trader. So if you had 2.5k what vehicle would you be opting for ? this is get to work and back vehicle.

Thanks.

We bought a tidy 104k 2005 Mercedes CLK 220 CDI for £2100 recently, they seem fairly robust and arent expensive, plus not a bad looker.

Was a good sign when buying a 100k one that there are loads at much higher mileages, bits are cheap as well

Example, not far from you,

I wouldn't be having a cheap car like that delivered unseen. It sounds like an easy way for someone to dump a lemon on you and then you've got to go through all the rigmarole of returning it

I'd just buy an NA petrol Toyota in whatever size suits your needs for about £1500-2000, then have a bit of a slush fund to get it up to scratch if it has a few niggles.

This isn’t a great idea as they are rolling out a low emission zone in Glasgow in 2023. There will be a £60 penalty if you enter the zone in a non-compliant car, such as this one. Even if you plan on getting rid of it before then, it’s likely to nail its second hand value

This ^^

Get one with a warranty and have some money set aside for repairs.

Here's a few id probably look closer at. (pickings seem very slim in Glasgow.)

Honda Jazz

Toyota Avensis
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202107114...

Volvo S40
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202109297...

Mk1 Ford Focus if you can find a good one

Honda Accord

I live in the suburbs of Glasgow, the ULEZ zone is very easy to work around unless you need to drive right into the City Centre for work.

I drive my non-compliant diesel into the City regularly, and already park East or West of the boundary zone simply as parking isn't as stupidly expensive, takes 5 minutes to walk in.

I think it will make zero difference to used car values up here, the zone is miniscule in comparison to the zones in London etc. It covers none of the West End where many go out to eat and drink, and City Centre shopping is dying anyway as there's several out of town options now.

I'd make the time to go & view potential purchases especially at this lower price point as pictures can hide a world of sins, I'd be looking for something with the 220d Mercedes with the 220d prefix on the back:

C Coupe C220 SE

CLK220 Avantgarde this & the E Class below are at the same dealership, as long as it checked out this is the car I'd be buying:

E220 Avantgarde

At that price point I would not be going to any dealers in Glasgow, they're all heaps of utter ste. However, a quick trip out to the Monklands or Paisley has often got me decent wheels for that kind of money.

I quite fancy the little mazda, Am i right in thinking it doesnt have cambelt and wont need to check if this has been replaced at some point ?

Anything else I should enquire about as I plan on popping them a message then agreeing for them to deliver to me.

Thanks

I really like the look of the little Focus anything I should be asking before purchasing ? they have already confirmed they would be able to drop it off If needed.

Owner also confirmed not got full service history ?

If you're in Glasgow and after a cheap car, it's worth having a look at JMC cars, they tend to have lots of small cheap stuff in stock, usually with low miles and long MOTs. Examples

Kia Ceed 1.4

Renault Clio 1.2 16v

Volvo S40 1.6 Sport

Toyota Yaris 1.3 VVT-i

Mazda 2 1.3 TS2

Cars I like from other places

Honda Civic 1.8 i-VTEC SE

Suzuki Swift 1.3 SZ3

Saw a Panda 4x4 located in Glasgow earlier on ebay.

Set of winter tyres and I imagine you'd be able to go pretty much everywhere.

Mind that ULEZ could rapidly increase in size after being fully implemented (and not just Glasgow) due to SNP/Greens. I would stick with petrol unless doing mega mileage.

I bought my fiancée that Corsa for a similar price and it was nothing but problems.

I'd recommend the Civic despite being older and the higher mileage as it will just be built better.

Thanks just one question I was looking over both MOT history and the Civic seems to have a lot more issues in the advisories should I take this into consideration as the Corsa seems to have had no issues as of yet that I can see ? also what about things like timing belts/chains etc... how do I find out if these have been done.

Complete noob sorry smile

You'd be soft in the head to pay those prices for those cars. That Fiesta in particular is insane - you'd pick up the same car for about £800 through Facebook.
