Hi All,

After receiving some fantastic advice from the forum about 3 years ago...! I purchased a Skoda Octavia 2.0 Automatic for my work commute (120 miles a day) the car has been a treat, economical to run and very comfortable. Highly recommended for a commuter, however I hit 200K the other day and the Turbo has given up!

I have tried a few garages and it seems about £1600-£1800 to replace and I have been advised the dual mass fly wheel is also going... so I think its time for new car!

I am now looking at a Mercedes!! And went to test drive a 2007 E320 CDi today, a beautiful car ! with 90K on the clock and a full MB service history the chap is asking 5K but I have just seen a 2011 C200 CDi 125G with a 100K on the clock which looks very nice. This is a little more money at 8K.

Re the C200, I believe its a pre face lift model as it has the Mercedes emblem on the hood. Not sure what difference this makes ?

What are people thoughts on these models ? I am looking for comfort / reliability and fuel economy (and service economy)

Thanks in advance.

Martin

Are you sure you want a MB? There are quite a few newer cars at that price tag which would tick all the boxes. Insignia, Mondeo even a DS5

Hmmm, doesn’t have to be. Looking for something comfy with a decent MPG.

The 3.0d would be my pick as the C200 is a little bit too under powered for me.

There are some great well spec'd reliable options with less than 90k on the clock.

Insignia Elite Nav 170 Auto good (this one is also ULEZ/CAZ compliant) dependable cars, nicely spec'd & you'll get a very low mileage example for the top end of your budget:

The Infiniti is the pick, it's a clear step ahead of the mainstream options & is on par with the premium cars too but with the bonus of being exempt from future charges.

Out of the other premium options I'd take an E350 followed by the XF because they're a clear step up from the C Class/your current Skoda, the 250/220 are decent alternatives.

Out of the mainstream options it would be the Insignia or 508 for me.
