I’m torn between these two as I’m looking for a practical 5 door car with a track warranty and a manual gearbox. These two cars seem to be the only ones that fit the bill. I’m not necessarily looking for the fastest one as that’s obviously the i30n, but rather the most fun day to day and also on a track day. Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

No experience with either but I do like them both.

Based on reviews I’d say the bigger i30 would be the better car, especially if you are going to use it as a daily drive. The i20 is said to have a very hard ride and I don’t think you can change the suspension settings.

Thanks Chris. I should have put in my post that the size of either of them is more than enough for me.

My personal experience of this is that usually the bigger hatchback is the stronger car in every area except running costs with the differences being tiny in this department.

However as a caveat the smaller car at times can definitely be more fun.

In your case I’d go the I30n if I could afford it.

From what I've read the i30N the bigger car is more accomplished car.

Thanks for the input everyone. My concern is the near 300kg kerbweight difference, will that potentially sway it towards the lighter car in terms of enjoyment?

Test drive an i30N you won't think about the weight again, there's also the 308 PS GTI 270 which is also a cracking steer.

I can only go on my experience owning a i30n fastback, but I absolutely love it - quick, comfortable with the adaptive dampeners, fully loaded with all the toys etc.

It's taking time getting used to the size compared to my old car and the turning circle is pretty big, but I'd highly recommend giving one a go.
