Used car supply/ prices

Why is it that there is a supposed shortage of used cars which is used as a reason to push prices to silly levels when every car dealership you see has a forecourt overflowing with the things?
Main dealer here. Not the case at all, only a couple of weeks ago I only had 12 cars on my forecourt, I usually have 70!
Stock has only recently started to become available at sensible prices again.
You have to remember there is an ongoing supply issue with new cars and inflation means prices are a lot higher at present.
My previous car I bought at an age of 2 years old with 24,000 miles on the clock. 2 years later with 30,000 miles added to it, I ended up getting £500 more than I paid for it.

We usually run about 110 used cars
Floating around 80 right now, we are lucking we get a lot of part exchanges but also buy from auctions.
A lot of competition around though thats pushing prices up, too many dealers wanting cars not enough to go around so bidding wars.
Have to pay top money for cars otherwise we cant sell empty pitches.
