Hi All,

Ye Olde Mum and Dad have asked me to go car-shopping for them for a SUV, a subject i'm not overly confident with in their budget.

The remit is:
Comfortable
Reliable and good for up to 50-60k miles of motoring which should pretty much get them to the end of their driving days (bless 'em)
Reasonably economical
Newish? Maybe circa 2016-17 onwards
£10,000 ish

This is not very Pistonheads, and may be a big ask, but does anyone have any experience of such a car which may be close to the remit?

Thanks in advance

Hyundai Tucson
Kia Sportage
Mitsubishi ASX
Nissan Quashqai

£10k is a bit light these days, but if they can stretch to around £15k they will be spoilt for choice with late low mileage examples and in the case of the Korean duo, they will still have the balance of the manufacturers warranty.

£10k is a bit of a no man's land, unfortunately.

Mrs Andy86gt has a Suzuki Vitara SZ5 which is very economical (boggo 1.6) but has all the toys. They are very reliable (check out Suzuki on JD Power etc) and inexpensive as the brand has zero cudos.

Good call. A cousin of mine bought one for his other half and it's been faultless.

Firstly don't focus on the age but make sure they can get a nice SUV/Crossover.

If they are really set on the age limit, I get it because my inlaws are the same, then the Mokka is probably as good an option as anything, I think my inlaws are on their 3rd or 4th in a row now, all have been faultless but the Father In Law has some weird paranoia about taking a car for an MOT test.

They are very much white goods type cars and not all that spacious either but for a couple they would be absolutely fine.

Mazda CX-3 or CX-5. Might get a newer of the former for closer to £10k. The latter will be a 2013/4 plate but they are nicely specced and should see your folks comfortable.

We've had a Mazda 2 (CX-3 is a jacked up version of the 2) or CX-5 as part of our garage for the last 12 years and they've been faultless.

Thanks for all the replies so far.
Mazda CX-3 is on the agenda, as is the Renault Captur ?

My parents set out with exactly the same criteria about 6 weeks ago. They ended up doubling up the budget and getting a lovely low mileage Qashqai.
There was some choice around £10k; I was pointing them towards a petrol CRV. But basically their age and mileage a-phobia meant upping the budget for choice and more appealing options.

Bit of a left-field choice, but I've been hugely impressed with the SsangYong Tivoli.

7-year/150k-mile warranty and ridiculous value. Much less unattractive than SsangYong's previous efforts. Not great if soft-touch plastics are your thing, but in terms of value for money I don't think you can beat them.

Skoda Yeti? They seem to be well-liked by their owners.
