Can anyone recommend an alternative to a quickish and economical Volvo alternative. I’ve got a S60 T8 which is great but the wife seems to have taken ownership of it, she loves the seats and the app which allows pre conditioning ie warm seats, steering and all defrosted on a cold day. Budget is around £35k, T8 from Volvo are virtually non existent, I’m struggling to find an alternative with the performance, tech and mpg of a PHEV, which works for me as most journeys around 30 miles, doesn’t have to be a PHEV though or even 4 door, fairly flexible as 99% only me in it.

Thanks, but too big, as mentioned most of time just me in the car, S60 was a good size, I wouldn’t like to go any bigger, I test drove some 5 series but a large lump to cart around. Standard 3 series just doesn’t do it for me, M340 possible but too expensive.

If most of your journeys are around 30 miles, wouldn’t it make more sense to get an electric car, rather than have an inefficient part-time electric PHEV, where you have the unnecessary weight and expense of a petrol engine, fuel tank and other gubbins to carry around with you at all times?

The BMW i3 and VW ID3 both have plenty of tech and performance and can be bought new for your budget.

You won't. For the money, nothing beats a Volvo PHEV for combined performance, economy and comfort.

I’m starting to think that, they seem a good all rounder, not ready to go full EV yet as still do occasional long distance with little notice, I don’t think i3 bmw or VW ID3 is an equivalent car, fit, finish and performance on the Volvo is better.

Wife would actually like a v60 but T8 versions are only available new and delivery times very long, a handful of S60’s around, I’ve got a few weeks, if no alternative I might even go for another S60 if I can find a decent spec/price one.

Problem is finding one, only 4 or 5 to choose from, private one is the cheapest and nicest spec with almost every extra but higher millage 37k. The best is a dealer one but not keen on red, has decent options but doesn’t have the one I use the most, a decent sound system, the others are expensive and basic specs, hence why now looking at alternatives, ideally don’t want to go over £35k and a couple of years old.

Alfa Giulia Veloce Ti these will come with the balance of the 5 year warranty 3 years of free servicing & 5 years roadside assistance which makes them a good buy at this price point:

21 Lusso Ti lower spec but you're looking at a nearly new car with the same 5-3-5 package as above:

Or a 21 Veloce

Get that private one, it looks alright. I wouldn't be worried about 37,000 miles. I'm sure you'll still be able to get an approved used warranty if you feel you need that kind of thing.

Thanks for taking the time to find these, I’ve not considered Alfa, it’s certainly is a very good looking car and arguably more handsome than the new S60. The performance is good but not near the T8 and running costs will be higher. They are priced almost the same as the T8’s, the PHEV works for us so I’m going the hold for a decent T8 or equivalent. Thanks again though.

I do like that one as it’s nice colour and seems well cared for, also has Polestar upgrade and Tow bar. I’m waiting on a dealer to get back to me on one that is being released from their management cars but he’s already said unlikely to be very high spec and if it can be released at all as not easy for them to be replaced. Thanks for you help.

No problem as I said earlier, just get an S60 but if you don't mind the extra cost then the Alfa is a good alternative it does sound like the PHEV works for you.

It does sound like the private sale one is the pick.
