If you had £60,000 to buy a weekend toy that you may occasionally use for you 300 mile commute what would you recommend R8, Porsche Turbo or other suggestions

Do you want to buy as an investment, or do you care about future values?

Do you appreciate comfort over "sporty" handling?

Would like to not lose too much (wouldn’t we all) would like a bit of comfort but not really after a GT (previously owned a R8 Spyder bit sold due to uncertainty over covid implications to business )

I’d look at a lotus Evora 410 or a 991 Carrera/ 997 Turbo. On the comfortable side of sports cars

One or other of those two and not much else. This assumes your commute isn’t just boring motorway and you’ll be doing it whatever the weather.

Ferraris are too mileage sensitive. McLarens personally too much of a risk.

GT3/4 or Vantage V12 would be a budget stretch and won’t be as sure footed in all weathers.

Choosing between them comes down to personal your preference. For me it would probably be head -> turbo and heart -> V10 R8 (may need budget creep for a V10 these days).

I've ridden in one. I'd have been deeply disappointed had I spent £60k on it.

Me too. I have been looking at them for at least 4 years and saw prices steadily go down... until they went back up over the last 18 months!!!

Too powerful for you? biggrin

I've had mine a couple of years now, and the things immense, never ever fails to make me smile. Each to their own of course.

I'm looking to move on and try something else, but really struggling to know what can top it for similar money.

I'm a bit bias as I really enjoy driving these but my first pick would be a C6 Z06 Corvette, they're a great steer & will eat up a 300 mile commute (but I'd be wrapping it as I'm not the greatest fan of yellow) with ease:

ZR1 Corvette not quite as sweet a steer as the Z06 (there's not much that is) but a bombastic engine nonetheless:

Both of the above come well under budget, if you want to spend more the C7 Stingray with the Z51 package & 2/3LT spec are well worth a look.

Thanks for the Suggestions, didn’t consider the AMG GT, presently have a RS6 C6 v10 it is probably the best all round car I have every had, supremely comfortable, fantastic stereo, stupidly quick but I just don’t get that sense of occasion, dont think lets go out in the RS6 where in the R8 always wanted to go out in it

Easy to do, but the Lexus LC500 has yet to be mentioned...in fact, I don't think there is a car that fits the bill better. Half way between a GT and a sports car and a beautifully built car that will not be ruinous to run.

If you don't want to lose money...

A 987 Spyder would be worth a shout.

I have a Ferrari 360 for that brief, don’t get a super low mileage one as you will afraid to use it. Mine is a 40k mile car, so using it will hit its value less. Not cheap to run though in terms of fuel and servicing.

Previously Lotus Evora met the brief well.
