hi, looking to buy a giulia quadrifoglio in the obligatory red.

choice is quite limited via. the approved used network, but there are various other private/trade deals available.

given that alfa is not famed for it's reliability, I wanted to get a view of any obvious cons/extra steps that might be taken buying outside of the approved used network e.g. are there circumstances in which a car would be rejected by alfa etc. should I be validating the car's history with alfa etc.

any advice is appreciated!

In mid 2018 Alfa introduced five years warranty, three years servicing and five years breakdown assistance. I would go for a QF that is new enough to have that rather than an older model with an (expired) 3 yr warranty. Assuming it has been correctly serviced I would have no qualms of getting one of these outside main dealers.

Beware of high milers though-or if you are planning high miles yourself-I think the 5 yr warranty has a limit of 75,000 miles.

thanks for the tip re: 5 year warranty. that makes a lot of sense.

If it helps, I have an Alfa GTV which has been faultless for this whole week, so far, although admittedly I haven't tried to start it up for a few days.

Joking aside, all modern cars are super-reliable. Just buy it.

A colleague of mine bought an Alfa brand new from the main dealer and they were still pretty bad at sorting out issues under warranty, I know he took it back three times for issues with the brakes so O wouldn't put too much faith in buying from them approved used to be honest, i'd buy one on its own merits regardless of who was selling it.

They are beautiful cars though

I think there's something to be said for buying used as they will hopefully have been snagged and if you do your homework you can avoid a Friday afternoon car. With new its pot luck!
