Afternoon all.

Due to impending baby arrival in April I am having to sell my 2019 3 door Fiesta ST3 for something more practical.

The wife likes the look of the Nissan Qashqai and sadly i cannot seem to convince her an estate car is the way forward.

Budget is £8k, with slight room for manoeuvre for the perfect car.

Can any of you advise what to look for on a used Qashqai? Or is it really just general maintenance and condition I should be looking at rather than common faults?

I would be looking at petrol only due to mileage (less than 8k a year, mainly very short journeys). And want the nav/reversing camera and panoramic roof. I prefer the look of the facelift model introduced in 2010 so will be looking at these.

I have seen the below 3 options. Do either look like ones to avoid? These just happen to be close to home. I have no issue travelling if need be.

Sorry for your loss.

Anyway, could you stretch the budget to a mk2 version? The mk1s got a pretty poor reputation build quality wise

Ha! Thanks p4cks

If we did stretch to a mk2 it would to be one of the cheaper ones so higher mileage which puts me off a bit.

Anything in particular on the build quality that I should be looking out for? Or do you just mean overall quality such as plastics? I'm not expecting them to be class leading!

Cheers

Having a baby doesn’t mean you need to change cars.

We have had a 3dr focus ST when we had our first and my wife had a Mini Cooper S when we had our second.

If you love the Fiesta I would say keep it, my Dad had a Qashqai and they are so dull.

Appreciate that Deadlysub but we are going to change to something 5 door to make getting in and out easier.

Am paying £300 a month on the Fiesta so another reason looking to change is to buy outright and thus be £300 a month better off. Treated myself to the only new car I have ever had when times were good pre Covid.

Then when/if things pick up in my industry (corporate travel!) I can then look to get back into something fun.

I have driven 2008 Qashqais back when they were new (working in car rental back then) so fully aware on how dull they are. But then before the Fiesta I was in a 2006 Vectra shed so I can be happy with dull!!

Just looking to find out what I should be looking at on the Qashqais when i goto see them.

Cheers

Peter

Also check the boot size before you commit.

You won't get a nice Kuga for your budget but you will get a nice Sportage for your budget.

KX-2 with the more powerful & better suited 2.0i engine

2 with the 1.6i these have to be worked a bit more:

If you hunt around & don't mind travelling then the Hyundai Tucson with the 1.6T engine is a good pick but they're thin on the ground:

Hadn't considered the Kia. Will take a further look.

Looks wise I think the Qashqai is the better looking of the 2.

No leftfield option?!

Thank you for taking to the time to provide these links.

How about a Dacia Duster? Same family as a qashqai but less mumsey.

I agree but the Sportage is a better overall car, not that the Qashqai is a bad car it's okay but wouldn't be my first pick.

I had a Mk1 petrol Qashqai.

Well, when i say I, it was the wife's and on a lease through her work.

We ran it for 3 years, from new. I think it was a 2012.

It never broke down in the time we had it, and got us from A to B, but that was it for the positives.

The 1.6 petrol was really under powered, and even the wife who has no interest in cars ended up hating it. Totally uninspiring white goods car, with very few redeeming qualities.

If my other half was dead set on a Qashqai, I'd pretend they don't exist and then look at a Mazda CX-5 or a Kia Sportage. Then I'd buy a Dacia Duster

I’d go sportage too, we owned a 2015 Qashqai for 2 years and although it was ok I’d not touch another.
The boot isn’t great and probably no bigger than a fiesta.

Sounds like I need to go look at one in the flesh.

From the outside you would assume that the boot is a decent enough size.

The boot isn’t small I’d say Focus sized.

A work colleague had a mk1 Qashquai with the Diesel engine. That car was disappointment after disappointment for him, constant niggles with the locking / security systems which did immobilise the car more than once, air conditioning issues, and then to cap it off he found out that it was the worst offending model for cheating emissions.

Nissan are not what they were and I personally would not buy or recommend one except maybe their commercial vehicles?

Also the auto gearbox fitted to the 3rd car the OP linked is a CVT which aren’t very PH…

Thanks Russell.

After posting I have since discovered about the auto being CVT which is meant to be crap so will be avoided.

Are the petrol engines any more reliable than the diesels?

I was assuming that due to being a bland Japanese white good there wouldn't be too much to go wrong past normal maintenance.

Happy to be advised if otherwise.

Cheers

Nissans were great until they partnered with Renault.
