Hi all

found the 21012 thread of the same name and wondered what people thought now of the better car?

Id be looking at about a 2014 to 2016 sort of age Z4 or SLK (Metal roof drop tops). Doesn't have to be all powerful, i.e not the 3 litre jobs. I really like the look of the SLK but I think the Z4 just edges it on looks. I wouldn't be hammering it down bendy country roads or anything, just a small commute a few days a week and weekend use/UK holidays cruising up the motorway or A roads.

So given a £15/16k budget (part ex-ing an 09 MX5) what would you go for and why? Disclaimer, I'm and old git. (58).

I think really I need to go and persuade a dealer Im serious and get to drive them both.

Cheers all.

I'd test drive both. Both will have electric power steering, so they may not feel as good as the hydraulic on your NC MX-5.

I know more about the SLK/SLC than the Z4: reviews don't really rate the ride/handling of the SLK/SLC and if I were considering one I'd get one with the 2015-on 2.0 litre M274 engine, rather than the 1.8 litre M271 that's known for timing-chain and sprocket problems.

Interesting as these cars are reasonably priced for what they are. A mate has an SLK and loves it as a second car, about your age too. I’d be quite tempted by a Z4 personally

I bought a 2009 Z4 E89 Sdrive 23i a few years ago, was going to get it and keep it for a year. I kept it for 4 years it was that good.

I tried the equiv mercedes.... and the ones i looked at was no where near as nice inside as the z4. year for year. Merc seemed to get the whizz on later. but the merc was low rent... The Z had a long 6 at the front and it felt great on the road.
