Peugeot 207 1.6THP 150 - any experience?
Discussion
Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) of the early Peugeot 207 1.6 THP 150 engines? There seems to be some horror stories about online to do with cam chains failing. Keen to find out what symptoms to look out for, or if anyone has any good or bad experiences of this engine? Been offered one from a colleague at work before she px's it, considering buying it and using it for the next 6 months.
Cheers!

Is this a ‘Prince’ engine? If it is I’ve got a variation of it in my Mini (N18). From what I’ve read the chain issues can be caused by letting the oil run too low, so does your colleague seem the type to check levels regularly? If there’s an issue you should be able to hear a rubbing or rattling noise on startup and there might be an engine management light on.
I have a 207 GTI, which shares the same engine as this. As mentioned in the previous post the chain tensioner can be an issue, although I think this was sorted in later cars. Mine started with the rattle on cold start up so I had the chain and tensioner changed which was quite pricey. Otherwise it's been fine over the 3 years I've owned it
Would have to be very cheap for me to want to buy it. 206 Gti (Regular or 180) are cheaper, lighter, handle better and don't have the engine issues. I guy I know has had his 207 Gti 175 years though and loves it, although did have to get the timing chain changed.
They are both fairly dodgy with warning lights and faults though.

Thanks for your replies! It seems as though during the last 4 years she has owned it, she has never had it serviced! And according to the MoT history, she's done 28k miles in that time. Definitely a no from me. The engine is probably on its last legs.
Defo avoid then. Changing the oil regularly is critical on theseads_4116 said:

Oh dear. This seems quite common with that type of car. A few weeks ago a colleague said to me “my car says ‘change oil’, what does that mean?”…me “it needs a service”, her “oh it’s having an MOT next week”
