Hoping the PH knowledge bank can help me here

I am planning on buying a 3yr old car from an independent dealer. Said dealer seems to have a good reputation, and sells plenty of more expensive stock. They acquired the car privately

It listed new at over £90k and the first service was done at 1yr old 6500miles by Copart Bedfordshire. This seems odd to me, as I only know Copart from salvage, auctions etc.... but there may be another perfectly reasonable explanation. Not what I would do with an expensive 1yr old car, but I wasnt the owner...

The 2nd serice was done by Paragon Fleet services, again not obviously a main dealer but maybe perfectly fine as a company car. Strangely in the intervening year between services it did c. 100miles. But maybe that was down to Covid, company car not being used etc

Both services appear on the electronic service record

As condition of sale I have asked for a "normal" main dealer service and an official manufacturer warranty, which I assume will involve some checks

I have also checked the Experian file and found no funnies

But how do I satisy myself 100pc that the car wasnt crashed and thats why it was at Copart?

Do they have a fleet management arm or similar...or maybe they service their own management cars?

Any useful info much appreciated

Go to Vcheck pay a tenner and it will give a comprehensive report, I believe they clock salvage yards as part of their search.

If the car is a JLR car and the servicing address is in Wootton, Bedfordshire & not Sandy, Bedfordshire then it could well have been serviced by them.

I second this.
Did so to get a full report, worth it.

If you offered that car to a main dealer for stock they'd likely decline to buy that car with that service stamp in the book.

Car would need to be very cheap depending on exact make and model as there could well be extended warranty implications which would put most buyers off.

Wonder if the correct oil and parts were used. scratchchin

Depends if you want to run it into the ground or sell on within a short time frame which will inevitably prove difficult.

Second hand stock is at a premium. Dealers are not as picky as they were. If it's coming with a JLR warranty and has just been JLR serviced, where is the problem?

It might well have had a crap service before, but engines and drivetrains are designed for well over 100k now. A service at 6500k won't make any difference. And JLR obviously think the same, which us why they have warrantied the car.

Are you sure you're not just looking for an excuse to back out?

Hey, I'm not looking for an argument. If there is no problem, what are you posting here for?

If the Rangey is to your liking and has dealer warranty and service, get it bought if you want it.

Don't understand why you would say you don't trust main dealers. What do you want? Trade price but with gilt edged back up?

You could of course take yourself and your money to a glass palace main dealer and insist on only considering cars that have full glass palace main dealer servicing.

It will make life easier when you come to sell the car.

As Arfer Daley said "The world is your lobster, my son".

It’s got nothing to do with glass palaces and prices. The car is the same price as a main dealer car and the spec I want

The point of the post was a clear question could anyone who had knowledge suggest a reason a car would have Copart on its service history …

Wasn’t asking should I buy it or advice where to shop

It's had one oil change at 6500k at somewhere other than JLR. It's not a service history.

That oil is long gone and now (or when you buy it) it will have the same oil fitted by a man with a green oval on his overalls.

You are making something to be a problem when it isn't.

Have you done this OP?

Have you done a VCheck yet? I bet it’s been unrecorded crashed and repaired. Look on the Dodgy Cars Facebook page, plenty of approved used main dealer cars on there with undeclared Cat S damage, aibags deployed, clocked, etc. Especially a car like a Range Rover, because lots of idiots buy them or aspire to them (i.e. nick them) I’m sorry to say.

It could be as simple as an employee of Copart owned the car and used them for service.

Or someone who lives close by trusted their techs to do it.

Or it could be worse.

It may well come with full JLR warranty, but if they go to do a claim and find the fault has been caused by previous accident damage, they'll refuse the claim.

I wouldn’t buy it, plenty of others out there. Copart and low mileage between services would suggest to me something happened to the car.
