Sold my car to a dealer recently. They had a car buying arm which I sold to. Decent price, the two gents who came to collect and inspect the car were nice guys and polite. I was happy with the price and they managed to sell the car within a day of it going up on their site.

Fast forward a month or so, they message me and ask for details of the company that had installed the Ghost immobiliser. Apparently, the new buyers had left the car for a fortnight whilst they went on holiday. Came back to a dead car and couldn’t get it started.

I was contact by the car buying company who asked for details of the fitting company. As I felt they had treated me fairly, I sent them the email invoices giving details of the fitters and also said that the battery was less than six months old and was a decent Bosch S5 so should take a charge if using a decent charger.

To be honest, it they had tried to stiff me on price at appraisal time, or were that National car buying company, I would have ignored them.

So, have any of you guys been asked for help once you’d sold your car to a garage and how did you respond?

I have, when the car was still under warranty and it developed a fault while at the dealer. They asked if they could book it in in my name, I said OK and actually was never contacted about it.

They gave me the best price, no quibble, instant payment etc.

Why not? It is a problem for the new owner, nothing to do with whether the dealer was fine or not. To be honest, details and information of the added equipment should have been passed on anyway.

Yes it was all passed on. The fitting certificate, manuals, pin code, stickers. Everything except the booking email which contained the fitting agent’s details.

This.

I'd help out as it seems to be causing an innocent third party hassle, no skin off my nose to say what I know, and I'd hope someone would do the same for me.

You've already had the money so why not help someone else out? I definitely would.
