£30-60k daily finished depreciating -ok running costs
Discussion
Hi all,
I am interested in opinions on cars that have finished or will soon finish depreciating and are currently around the £30-60k mark which are also not terrible in terms of running costs. By running costs I mean the engine exploding rather than MPG. Im happy with the odd 4 figure maintenance bill.
I havent thought this through properly but I often end up looking at things like:
V8Vantage 4.3/4.7
911 mainly turbos
AMG GT - over budget but starting to look interesting
N6issa GTR
M3/M4 manual competition.
Also very interested in more classic cars so e.g. a 993 or a dastun?
Any ideas welcome

I do like the R8 bit I would have to budget at least 2k+ for seat upgrade as I hate the seats, and the interior generally.
My GF has a TTS and it is identical inside which is genuinely off-putting
GT3 is interesting...I'd have to look into running costs and warranty costs as I think I'd want a comp warranty.
Will look into the others too

How hard core do you want to be from a drivers perspective?
B-road blaster or trans-continental express?
2-seater or usable rear seats?
In no particular order (and ignoring R8 which you discounted)
-Gen 1 997 Turbo.
-DB9
-DBS
-612 Scaglietti
-456 GT manual.
-Gallardo
-SL65
-Gt-R
-Tuscan or Sagaris
-Noble M12
Possibly not dailys.
-Jensen Interceptor
-Lotus Elan Plus 2
-360 manual
Probably not quite finished depreciating but very slowly
-Early Gen 2 Conti GT
- Early Granturismo Sport
- Early AM Rapide

Going through that list now
I always tend towards more driver focussed BUT I really don't want something that as soon as I get in I want to take on track because that becomes problematic! Issue is that obvs with a GT3 or Lotus that will happen.
So I am quite interested in more of a GT car as well.

I don't think there is such a thing as a performance car that's finished depreciating. Possibly if you put it in your garage and don't use it, but as soon as you start to put the miles on it, the value will drop.
Plenty of examples of appreciation. A80 Supras are worth four times what they used to be; you won't find a turbo manual for ten grand, however high the mileage. Other 90s JDM stuff, BMW M cars, air-cooled 911s, Pug 205s - plenty where appreciation has outweighed the accumulation of mileage. Hell, I sold a 350Z for more than I paid for it, had only had it a year.So looking forwards, drivers cars around 15-20 years old are probably well set to hold their value.
I do think however that going too much towards the GT side of the equation tends to weaken your prospects in that regard - comfort and usability doesn't appreciate as much as excitement. So it's perhaps a balance between wanting to avoid a trackday car, but still getting something more towards the drivers car end of the scale.
Maserati GranSport or a 997.2 manual would be my choice. I think the Maserati is undervalued and will eventually increase once people realize it was the last sporty front engined car before they started putting diesels in their cars. The 997.2 is the perfect blend of useable and still kind of old school 911
I would avoid the Ferrraris as nearly every maintenance bill will be 4 digits IMO and there might be the occasional 5-digit bill

How much better is a Gransport to drive than a Coupe, given that they look identical?I would avoid the Ferrraris as nearly every maintenance bill will be 4 digits IMO and there might be the occasional 5-digit bill
The Coupe has a manual option, unlike the Gransport which only has the automated manual (cambiocorsa) gearbox.
The cambiocorsa gearbox was painfully slow on my coupe, and while they sped up the change in the Gransport, I'd still go for a manual Coupe.
Out of interest would you go for a 997.2 Carrera over a 997.1 Turbo? To my mind the latter is better value.
PS. A 456 or 360 is not prohibitive to maintain at a specialist indy. At least my indy who'd sooner work on them than a DB9.
