Low boot small used estate/mpv

Hoping I will get some advice and comments on my search for a used estate/mpv, ideally smallish(what's that mean !) and with a low boot ie around 60 cms. As a 2nd car will probably only do about 5k miles a year

I've come across three which couldn't be more different all 58cms boot to floor ( according to RIDC )

VW Touran
Renault Clio Sport
Peugeot 207 SW

I know a little about the touran but have no knowledge of the others. I've only ever had one french car and that was years ago a Peugeot 205 XLD.. cracking car that never let me down

I can highly recommend a Dacia Logan MCV, load height 59cm and likely to get a newer lower mileage car compared to the ones you've mentioned, boot is much bigger than the Renault and Peugeot too. I have a stepway so the load bay is higher due to the raised ride height but otherwise the same as other Logans and I've been pleasantly surprised at how good mine is. I like the simplicity of it despite it having plenty of kit

I looked at these when I bought my Logan, much more car for the money! I did like the Fabia Monte Carlo and Ibiza FR though, but not worth the premium in my eyes

A quick google says a Berlingo has a 54cm load height. That's for the van variant. Some trim on the MPV style models might increase that slightly but should still be very low.

We've put 70k largely trouble free miles on a 54 plate Honda FR-V 2.0i Petrol VTEC which has just tipped over 130k miles needing only servicing, brakes, tyres, a clutch and an replacement exhaust in that time.

Really reliable, dependable car, I'd definitely have another, a shame they stopped making them. BMW have effectively copied it with the 2 Series Active Tourer.

The boot is pretty low, the missus is out in it at the moment but I'll measure it later. We carry a load of stuff in it for family camping trips.

Each to their own and all that.
We now have a 10+ year old, 110k Ibiza ST that so far has cost nothing above normal service and wear apart from the exhaust needing a patch. Not bad at all in my eyes, especially as it was bought for £7.5k nearly 8 years ago and shows no signs of any issues.

I did think of the Logan and the Ibizia. I know the Logan is low, I'll check on RIDC about the ibizia

As no-one commented on the Peugeot or Renault Clio tourer does that mean they are a big no no ?


Also ideally under £3500 to spend

Just took a quick look on RIDC and autotrader for the Ibizia ST estate and on RIDC's measurements its seems a good match. However when I look at the car on autotrader it seems to have quite a steep sloping roof which is not really ideal as one of the reasons we wanted a low boot was due to an arthritic big dog. The golf, Logan etc have much squarer boots

Does that make sense ?

it does, the sloping hatch of the ibiza and fabia are what put me off. The boot in the logan is as big as some cars 2 sizes up. Fits a camp bed in with the seats down. Although the stepway is slightly higher than the standard model it still has a low load height and also has grey cladding around the boot opening which is great to stop scratches when loading things (like arthritic doggies).

One car not mentioned is the Skoda roomster, that might be worth a look

what's your view on the 0.9 petrol vs 1.5dci Logan ?

what's your view on the 0.9 petrol vs 1.5dci Logan ?

I'm very happy with the petrol, I didn't even consider the diesel. Petrol was what I wanted and the little 0.9 is decent on fuel and surprisingly nippy. It can be quite an entertaining car at times, not something I expected

I didn't try a 1.2, but on paper the 0.9 is more powerful and lighter. In theory it should give better mpg and is quicker. The 1.2 lacks the turbo so I guess its less complicated

my other half has this generation of Astra and apart from it being relatively comfortable on a long journey I really don't rate it, the Clio may suffer the same problems of the ibiza and fabia with a sloping rear hatch

C3 Picasso. Relatively small car, big boot with no lip. Rear seats fold flat.
Comfy ride.
