Cars with catalytic converters?

Anyone now if there is a comprehensive list of cars that have catalytic converters?

Cat thefts are prolific where I live, and here I am needing to buy a 2nd hand car in the £5k - £10k bracket. I refuse to buy one with a cat, or at least a cat that is accessible and could be stolen.

So other than googling every make of car, is there a list anywhere online?

If it was built after 1992, it has one.

Either way, you're spectacularly unlikely to be buying a car in the £5-10k bracket that doesn't have one fitted.

The answer is to find one where the cat is built into the exhaust manifold and therefore within the bay, the newer the car the more likely it is to have a very short distance from the cylinder head to the cat.

Having the scum steal the cat from the wifes Yaris, I fell your pain.

I dont believe for a seocond these cat guards work, so my own gut instinct is to try and find what cars have the cats as part of the exhaust manifold -

this, to me, must be make them far more diffucult to access with a grinder or saw.

Ive also considered a small sticker for both sills that says Cat removed, jog on.

Im pretty sure you would find it hard to buy a car without a cat these days.

Cats have being a legal requirement on all new petrol and diesel cars since, I think, 1993. S if you don't want a cat then you have to look pre-1993.

I was once pulled over by VOSA doing emissions checks outside a shipyard I used to work at, about 10-12 years ago, in a 1992 Honda Prelude.

It 'failed'. He was getting his notebook out to write me up and telling me that my cat probably needed replaced.

"Yeah, it doesn't have one"

"What do you mean?"

"It's a 1992 car. It doesnt' have a catalytic converter. That was the year they changed it. This doesn't legally need one"

"Oh, i didn't know that. 1992 you say? I'll try remember that"

If its built after 1992 it will have a cat fitted so unless your buying a classic its just a risk your gonna have to take.

Some japanese cars like Honda Jazz and accords have ones that are more attractive to thieves as they contain more of the trace elements inside.

Probably more like pre-late 80s. I know they were fitted to a lot of vehicles before it was a legal requirement.

What a strange request. Cat thefts are prolific to certain cars, namely Toyotas and Hondas. Just don't buy one of those and you won't be targeted.

something like aygo /c1 has it tucked up near the engine as part of the manifold , would be harder to steal

Very old (pre cat), diesel (won’t be allowed in clean air zones) or early cheap electric (limited range).
Or something that’s hard to get at.
They tend to target early Japanese cats I think as they’re worth more.

Plenty of Nissan Leafs and Renault Zoes in your price range.

Guaranteed not to have a catalytic converter.

Cat thefts mainly seems to be a Toyota issue so avoid that brand, find a nice Astra & you'll be fine.

If my 2017 diesel Skoda Yeti has one then it's not one that is accessible

I know that Honda Jazz and Toyota Auris and some Lexus are notorious for cat thefts. I'm lead to believe that some of the newer Cats don't have the desirable metals inside, but the thieves seem still steal them.

I think you need to buy a 1992 Pre-Cat TVR Griffith.
