Hello fine people

collected a new car last friday from VW group

sunday comes (2 days) and the car is making a terrible grinding noise when turning right / left. worse when going right

car has been dropped off today as first slot they had (10 days after buying car)

they have informed me i need to pay a £99 inspection fee and then if it needs any work as its out of warranty i will pay

am i right in laughing?

i dont buy a new car and 1.5 days later hear it grinding away and be expected to pay for a checkup?

not sure where i stand

car is on HP.

thanks

The fault has appeared within the first 30 days so, if you wish to OP, you can reject the car.

Certainly you do not need to pay for the repair, should you choose to give them the chance to repair it.

Remind them of those facts, mentioning the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and the £99 inspection should go away (should!)

If they claim the car has no faults then things may get more complicated

How old is the vehicle please?

Ok so not some ancient old jalopy. I suggest discussing the matter with the dealer tomorrow based on my post above.

Please keep us updated, and good luck

What has the sales dept said? Presume you've told them.

Sounds like a jobsworth at the service reception.

Did you tell the service dept that you bought the car from them a few days earlier?

You are right to laugh, lack of communication between sales, and service, depts..

If you decide to go the rejection route then know that your 30 days period extends by any time that your car is at the garage for repair.

Please keep us updated.

Typo??

Or you actually have no warranty?

Presume typo if it's on HP and bought from a VW main dealer?

If you really want to get the sales managers attention do a "Quality complaint" to your finance company.

Have you taken it back to the dealer you bought it from or put it straight in to Nissan?

no chance i'm paying £99 fee or any fee for that matter on a car i've had for 2 days.

car is a 2014 qashqai bought from a VW main dealer (they had it in part exchange)

will keep you all updated.

update------

car went in for 2 days to be checked.

end of first day call - any update please? we will check tomorrow busy today.

second day call - no faults have ben diagnosed.

drive it and you will. plugging it in for 2 mins while on a fag break will not find a scraping noise when turning / driving

oh yes. they can hear it now.

im not paying the checkup fee as it was 2 days old. ok thats fine

we will check where you stand with a warranty and get back to you and also let us know when you want it booked in again

ok thanks, please let me know when i can sneak of work early and waste time and petrol to drop it off again. warmest regards

What does your invoice say about warranty !

Surely you must know what warranty you were given

Just wonder if it’s brake related from standing a while - whereabouts is the noise coming from?

Sounds like the OP is taking the right approach here and taking no rubbish from the dealer

Tell us how it was sold to you br this main dealer.

If they play silly buggers with you then contact your finance co to raise a quality complaint.

Dealers dont want to be getting too many quality complaints from their finance providers.

Some one higher up in the company would be furious to get one when it could have just been dealt with.

FFS you had the car 2 days!!

OP what have they written on your invoice?

Any nonsense like "trade sale" ??

From a VW main dealer? Unlikely

What fault have they actually diagnosed? Asking for the inspection fee is standard from any service department, you won't need to pay it given you've had it 2 days.

You can either ask them to repair it, or reject it. You hold the cards.
