Discounts possible
Discussion
Looking at a new XC90 PHEV - what are peoples thoughts about levels of discount available on new, factory order cars nowadays with the chip shortage & full order books (lots of cars apparently not being delivered till 2023) etc?
Is it a case of paying RRP essentially if you want to get a factory order?

A bit off topic but
Keep hearing there are more buyers for new cars then cars, so why are car manufactures still advertising?
And while some models the wait is a year or so seems there are manufactures with stock too according to Carwow, Audi, Mercedes, Ford all have stock of some models. Vauxhall lead times are only about six weeks?

Bigger issue now is placing the order and 6 months later the manufacturer cancels it or withdraws the support.
What do you mean? support for what?I see. As far as I am aware VW are honouring the agreed price and finance deals/contributions that were in place at the time or ordering, at this point. Not sure about other manufacturers as I am dealing with VW, JLR and Merc but only VW offer any incentives. I think there would be some major fallout if they were to renege on that on the back of a 12 month delivery time (ie; nine months delay).
Oops - typo. I meant to say only VW are offering incentives out of those three.

I’ve already come across one frustrating issue. Sold a car in November, with price protection.Manufacturer then implements price increase from £39 to £41K
The car is price protected for the agreed deal, but now has a list price in excess £40K, so attracts the additional £335 RFL premium for 5 years.
We as the dealer have had to swallow it.
Will Volvo have the extras you want unless you want a basic spec. I looked at new S60, near impossible to spec any extras, no pano roof, B&W sound gone and I’m sure lots of other stuff.
I was thinking of sell my 2020 S60 T8 PHEV which has every extra, think I might hold onto it as supply of high spec cars will be non existent for a few years.

This would be retail and most are adopting normal price protection. Oops - typo. I meant to say only VW are offering incentives out of those three.

Buying from a broker is different. They attract fleet support terms offered (in a normal market) to incentivise volume. This business is expensive for the manufacturer but was always a necessary evil. Not now.
Fleet support is being slashed in favour of retail business and some are cancelling fleet orders to feed retail demand.
We bought 2 vans in Sep. Discount to us This month is 70% down from last order. Van price has increased by 4k and conversion cost is up 20%. Each unit now 10k more than 6 months ago.

Essentially there now appears to be 3 models - Core, Plus and Ultimate. Very few options on any of them outside of metallic paint; the only way of getting certain features is to purchase the applicable model.I was thinking of sell my 2020 S60 T8 PHEV which has every extra, think I might hold onto it as supply of high spec cars will be non existent for a few years.
To be fair though, even the base model is very well spec’d.
I've ordered an XC60 Core on lease, I had looked at PCP but lease costs were less over the term (yes I know these savings could be eroded or negated by the car being door that than MGFV).
For this model Carwow we're showing discounts of 5-10%. There seemed to be more discount on Volvos than equivalent other marques.
