Hi Guys

I'm currently leasing a 20 Plate Golf R Estate. The lease runs to this June, but I've informally extended to Dec

I have been looking at either buying an Octavia VR's Est, but that's got a current lead time of 40+ weeks, or leasing a Cupra Leon Hatch, with similar lead times, but the Golf Est is such a great car to drive I'd be happy to keep

I've got a buy it now price of £30,275 from BCA

With all the uncertainties over lead times and the economy I'm tempted to buy it and hold it for say 2/3 years. I guess there's no right or wrong answer but I'd welcome opinions on the value of the offer and views on whether Golf R's will heavily depreciate in years 2 to 4?

Thanks

Rozzers

Put it into WBAC and if it’s similar, buy it.

WBAC have dropped on some stuff recently.

Try some of the other buying sites as well.

Not too many 20 plate Estates on the market. Cheapest I can find anywhere is >£1K more than the quote I've got - so the price from BCA seems v good. Plus I'm buying a car I know has no issues - currently

I suppose my main concern is a fall off in value with all the current uncertainties. There's a lot to be said for just handing a lease car back and picking up a new car - well that was the case pre-COVID

Difficult choice but the Golf is a great car and the best of both worlds really, unusual to see on the road too.
May be better to just keep it and enjoy it, don’t get too hung up on values as it’s difficult to predict what’s going to happen In the years to come.

They do seem to hold their value.

My 65 plate one is worth more than I bought it for in 2018 as far as I can tell.

That’s every car right now, not just Golf R’s.

Not really sure what the purpose of this thread is? You've extended, presumably on payments you're happy with until December - 9 months time. At the end of that you could easily go on to a formal extension on new terms for another year.

The market will have a great deal more certainty 6 months from now. Disregard the BIN price and just stay leasing. You can request a new BIN price from November quite easily.

WBAC is owned by BCA (UK Car Group) fyi.

I suspect the purpose is: is that if the op chooses to give it back in Dec 22, they need to be getting an order in for a "new" car pdq.

Incredible (stupid of me) to think I passed on a brand new 'last of the line' white Golf R estate in November 2020 for £27,900.....

I wouldn't. I got quoted £32k for mine which I thought was madness for a 30 month old R estate. Only option was metallic paint.

My previous quote for my 2017 R estate was £21k in 2019.

I can't see it being worth more than low £20'k's once things start to stabilise. Prices are already softening.
