High mileage 2017 Passat

Hi all, the shed of a Bora PD130 tested my patience this weekend and it has its MOT in the coming week which I'm not too confident on it passing. Now I can get a personal loan to get something much newer and generally nicer and this ad keeps popping up on autotrader. 116k in 5years, i do 20k a year atm so give or take when the loan is paid off it'll be nudging on 160k, but that annual mileage will come down a lot as we are planning to move a lot closer to my work [url]

Agree, these motors should do easily 200,000 miles as long as you care for them properly, change the oil when it asks and do the maintenance on time, some even twice that mileage.
The main things that kill these engines are short journeys, not allowing them to get warm, lack of maintenance and using crap quality fuel. Put the decent stuff (BP Ultimate diesel) in once every few tanks. Since you are doing high mileages, the first two shouldn't be a problem. The timing belt will be due at 130,000 miles, so you'll need to factor that in. You can get an indy to do it for £400.
When you give it a test drive, check the clutch isn't juddery, etc, that and the DMF could be due by now, which would set you back £700-£1000.
You'll still probably get £5k px with 160k on it if prices are similar in 5 years.
