Right,
I’m looking for a ‘modern classic’ convertible for a 3rd car.
Will do maybe 4-5k a year miles & will need to be automatic.
Narrowed down to three potentials.
2000-2003 jaguar KX
1999-2002/3 Porsche Boxster (2.7)
2004-2006 Mercedes SL500.
Assuming all have relatively similar mileages at purchase (say 75k miles ) and comprehensive histories - what are the running costs / borkage factors of each of the above?

The SL 500 is a good car but they're not cheap to run, the roof drainage holes block up & this causes them to leak onto the central locking mech to start with but if left to long will affect other units to as they're all in the boot where it leaks into.
The suspension isn't to big a deal these days you're looking at £500 per leg, like all cars of this vintage suspension bushes will need looking keeping an eye on the drive train is bulletproof.
If you can stretch to a 5.5 500 then you get a host of updates one of which means you won't have to worry about SBC pumps:

While I really enjoyed my SL55 I'd also say take a look at the CL500 now I know it's not a convertible but once you drop all the windows away & pop the roof it's very close:

I'd take the SL as I'm not a fan of the looks of the XK8 but you're the one buying, there's no good reason not to buy one though.
