Reliable thrills with practicality?

So, at the mo, we’ve got a vw caravelle, which is the best thing in the world. In terms of what it does - we’ll be looking to get a newer one next year though.
We also have a POS vw golf that we bought as a bit of a “this’ll do the boring jobs” and tbh I use the caravelle for most things as I hate the golf.
In addition to the caravelle, I’d like to change the golf, we used to have an xc60 which was great but I’m wondering if there are better options.
Can something be:
Able to provide fast driving whilst not costing £6000 to service?
Be comfortable without being boring?
Not drink fuel for fun?
I’ve considered something electric, then school run trips are free and my monthly drive to the office (250mile round trip) would be more reasonable than using the van and the newer electrics seem to have decent power too.
Budget circa £25k

You're looking for a hot hatch by the sounds of it.
Civic would be grand, though you might need to stretch the 25K a bit.
Comfort mode is exactly that (Even better and cheaper to run on 18" wheels without compromising handling); Thrills aplenty too.
Cars with 5 year service plan can be found; The original honda plan covers anything it needs from 5 years of purchase, so you should be able to get a 2019 with a couple years free servicing.
Brakes and tyres (See 18" wheel reccomendation!) are the biggest costs, but not too extreme.
Fuel economy averages around 35 between gentler runs and thrashes, 40+ attainable if you nurse it around.

Not sure how thrilling these electric cars will be, the acceleration from a standstill is fun, and they are really nice and relaxing to drive, as well as being very cheap to run though

I had a hip replaced and it’s just more comfortable
The beemer is a good suggestion. Not thought of a 4 series, probably try to find an x drive if I went for that, never really got on with rear wheel drive before, I’m not a good enough driver to enjoy it lol just felt too twitchy in the rain

Low cost servicing - tick - £190 for an interim service / £350 main (specialist)
Fast - 0- 60 4.6s - on the motorway i've never driven anything as effortless to overtake.
Efficient - easily average about 48mpg at a steady 75mph on motorway. Around town 35mpg is easy to achieve. Remember its 3.0ltr.
Size/Storage - 1300 litres of boot space with the rear seats folder/480 litres seats up. (i know you didn't mention this but cus you mentioned school runs etc. I know its going to be of interest for backpacks / school stuffs / holidays.
Pretty much ticks every box for you.
Btw mine is for sale if you want to look at one
