i bought a car from glasgow car dealer online 7295.
it was delivered
now i have tried many places but after the final checks no insurance company's will take it on.
asked dvla they said there is missing info from v5 ...the model. they wont update it unless manufacturer tells them
toyota told me they cant prove this because its an import
toyota alphard first uk owner
also the dealership gave all the wrong info to the warranty company that ive sorted
so now i've told them all this all they said was there not responsible for insurance and wont give a refund and now stopped communicating
citizen advice say they cant help, nor can motoring ombudsman. Also trying to find a solicitor in my area with no luck they dont do this type of work.
according to consumer righs from the ombudsman
i can get full refund 14 days from delivery day which i did and dont have to make any reason why.
dealership must tell me what cooling off peiod they offer. They didn't so i can hae 12 months from delivery now
and thats not even taking into account the main problem
whats the point in consumer rights if no one will help to enforce them.
any solicitors here that can help.
thank scott

Firstly as you've said you can rely on distance selling regs

Secondly as there are thousands of similarly poorly registered imports that we all manage to insure - you're not trying very hard - it's a non issue IME of driving Jap / USA imports for 30 years

you can enforce them, but in reality costs money.

Wouldn't it be better to try and resolve V5 issue, i'm sure it can be resolved.

What have Citizens advice said exactly?

No, they can't help you actually get your money back, but they offer the advice on what to write to the dealer, and get the correct wording for your communications.

This is all important if you have to go legal.

If you bought the car at a distance, paid for it at a distance, and it was delivered to you, then yes, you can return the car for a refund within 14 days.

The theory is easy, but actually getting the dealer to refund you isn't always straightforward, and can take months. (Took me 7 months with Bmw main agent) And yes, they went into ignore mode too... Mine was faulty rather than change of mind..

And you must stop using the car if you're intending to return it.

Try Admiral for insurance, they were the cheapest for my Elysion..

And also yes, the 14 days extends until they inform you of your rights to cancel within 14 days. Up to 12 months.

Print off the dealer advert, you might need this for your case.

Did you pay a deposit via a credit card?

The majority of imported cars on the road are registered wrong. Mine says Make: Toyota Model: White. You're not trying hard enough to insure it, unless you're only going to comparison sites? Phone up some insurers and get a quote

Also, when I bought my Elysion in, it didn't show up straight away on the databases that the insures use.

Not sure how long that takes, anyone????

It might be worth trying to insure it again in a couple of weeks if you decide to keep it.

Alphards are great bits of kit.

Depends what you mean. As long as the insurer has insured a Toyota Alphard before of the same trim level the databases it does or doesn’t appear on should be irrelevant. They will be able to search manually for the vehicle and enter the reg once the vehicle is established.

If they haven’t insured one before then it may become trickier.

I can’t see why the vehicle in question would cause such an issue. Confused.com list them in the make and model search for example.

Very much this. There is a way to amend the V5 when it comes to model names etc, with the DVLA, I did it with my old DC5 Integra a few years ago didn't even cost anything which came as a shock.

There isn't a need to send the car back, just speak to some specialist insurers who deal with imports.

I had to call the insurers as my reg didn't work on the
online quotes.

Probably what the OP is experiencing

As posted call a few of the specialist insurers, you have no real reason to reject the car.

I've steered many, many, people towards Citizens advice over the years, and then followed their progress.

I've never had anyone come back to me to say they wouldn't assist with car purchases.

Call them again, speak to a different adviser, or maybe try a different office.

They will advise you.

Sounds like you spoke to someone that just couldn't be bothered that day.
