Found a car I want, put a deposit on it, and its in Edinburgh, and I am in Milton Keynes.

We are extremely busy right now, and struggling to get the time to get to collect.

The seller is a guy I have known of for a few years as he is best friends of someone I know.

We have discussed using Shiply as a means to getting it down to me, but having never used them I am nervous of paying for a car, a considerable amount of money, and the car doesn't show up.

Should I be worried, or is Shiply ok?

Alternatively, anyone got an empty trailer on the way back from Edinburgh within the next week?

I've used Shiply a couple of times to source transport for cars. Didn't have any issues either time - I picked the quote that was well reviewed, good communication and a proper insurance in place.

My advice is to be really clear what you want - dates, any access or time restrictions etc. Try and plan ahead a little bit otherwise you might find suitable quotes a little hard to come by.

Take a flight to Edinburgh & drive the car home, you'll be home in just over 6 hours.

I have used them for motorcycle collection - the issue is that they vary hugely

I suspect if anything goes wrong it's between you and the shipper and shiply doesn't get involved

I've sold bikes to have them collected by young eastern Europeans who can't ride a bike, throwing it in the back of a Luton with furniture etc

You just have to choose carefully

That said I have a mate who is a transporter - very good, careful and insured, he's not the cheapest but if you are flexible and he can get a back load he's pretty reasonable

Would avoid Shiply as it’s the Wild West of transport. I know of someone that had a fairly expensive item collected and the courier decided he liked it so kept it. Shiply do not want to know and can’t provide courier details as the ones he registered with were fake.

Used Shiply about ten times now, never had any issues at all. Most recently had a car transported from Central London to Newcastle with no issues whatsoever.

The transport companies on there have feedback scores, so the risk is managed somewhat through past deliveries

Shiply no issues for me. It's more of a comparison site rather than a courier obviously so the trick is to look at the reputations of the companies that quote you and pick based on that.

I have used Shiply to transport a car from Northampton to Lincolnshire. I believe the courier I used is actually based in/near Milton Keynes!

I sold a boat earlier this year and the buyer had it collected and shipped 360mls organising through them. A 13yr old beat up van arrived with no towing electrics (which I had to sort) and a tow hitch so low to the ground I thought the thing was going to bottom out when we attached the boat, the inside of the van looked like a bomb had gone off in it, there were odds and sods lying scattered everywhere. However, the driver (a decent guy) was down at the buyers place the following morning at 7am and the thing was intact, clearly commercial driving regulations didn't apply to him, but he did have all appropriate insurances I'm told.

If it were me that had been shipping something of this value I'd have gone elsewhere !

Shipley worked well for me. Made sure I was clear in the description, and selected someone who had good reviews and actually responded in full sentences.

Shipley is a marketplace. People /companies bid for work based on your requirements. There will be good and bad. I used them to get a company to transport a motorbike, and k picked one that was their business, just transporting bikes. There were cheaper offers from folk who were passing by and transporting furniture and were going to chuck the bike into the van with it, but I picked who looked like the did transporting bikes as their only business

Usually your local area Facebook group will have a few on and plenty of actual customer's to recommend then
