Toyota landcruiser, with discount, safe bet?

£56k for a top spec car. its £500 refundable deposit, right to the point of delivery. Delivery is est at 45 weeks.
I can't work out if it'd be a 'smart' move to order one, given the lead times and prices asked for used/new ones? if prices drop, I can cancel my order and loose a couple quid, or go ahead and have something that might cost zero to run for 18 months?

No I don't this so , a good buy if you want to keep it for 20 years or when ever it is not cost effective to own a diesel.
But there is little demand now for a new Landcruiser , in a years time even less i would think . Not sure if Toyota will have a Hybird version for the UK in a few years as well.
The Commercial version would be a better buy in my opinion based on the Forces discount.

If you haven’t already I would recommend test driving one before committing to buy one.
A few years ago I was dead set on getting one for similar reasons, plus the fact I thought it would be more ‘interesting’ than other SUVs.

I don't like what the new defender 'is', if that makes any sense? Its also something I could keep a while and I've a strong distrust of JLR stuff.
I'm assuming those worried about demand for a second hand Land Cruiser have never owned, sold or even tried to buy one?
They're consistently about the most in demand secondhand vehicles out there with a lengthy waiting list to even buy a new one, all without Toyota UK even really trying to sell them.
I tried to test drive one with a view to ordering one a couple of years ago. No dealer had one to even look at and there was almost a years waiting list even pre covid - I ended up with a nearly new Hilux instead.
At that time there was quite a significant discount available to members of certain clubs - it wasn't well published but it was quite substantial and available through any dealer i think.

Toyota UK haven't even offered petrol Land Cruisers for years - because they weren't really selling any.Those secondhand petrol trucks that do exist are generally much cheaper than an equivalent diesel so no idea where you you got that idea from.

Every time I see an 80 Series for sale that isn't very expensive it's usually a petrol and I discount it straight away.
All the new ones are diesels.
