"Group finance chief Arno Antlitz warned that supplies of semiconductors will not return to normal until 2024, suggesting that long lead times, a lack of showroom choice and weird pricing in the new and used car market will affect the market for longer than expected."

Yet I got this today through a subscription service but I think this link will work - it's for the consumer market, but it all goes back to wafer fab capacity: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/demand-consumer-ele...
If they didn’t put so much electronic crap in cars it wouldn’t be such a problem and why do I get the feeling that the global car industry is lying to the world again like they did with dieselgate? They must be benefiting otherwise the issue would have been fixed by now. The Chinese can build a hospital in two weeks so it’s not like new/replacement plants couldn’t have been built by now.

It's not a car thing, it's a global electronics component thing. And no, new foundries where they grow the silicon are incredibly expensive so they cannot just be thrown up. They cost billions to build and take about 18 months to come online. There is a lot of investment into new capacity but ironically some of the machines to make semiconductors are also waiting on supply of semiconductor parts.
We just have to wait it out I'm afraid

No single organisation, person, corporation, country is capable of managing or controlling "it", so there's no "they" to let it happen - it just did.
The alternative would be to (globally) live in a society where demand is carefully managed worldwide to ensure equality.......
War in Ukraine has made a bad situation worse , since Ukraine is a major source for neon and thats used in great quantities when you manufacturer semi-conductors
