I need some help from the ph hive mind as I’m drawing blanks.

We currently have a DS3, hers and a old Jimny, mine.

It is just the two of us at the moment and a cocker spaniel. However swmbo has decided we are getting another dog, a Labrador.

At the moment the Jimny does 99% of the dog duties (rear seats removed, dog in a dog box). However with two dogs that’s going to get cosy quite quickly. It will be fine for day trips etc but when we go away won’t be much fun.

We live pretty rural so having a 4x4 is pretty useful for flooded roads and some of the car parks for dog walks.

We are faced with two options.

Get rid of the Jimny and replace, in which case budget would be 5kish. I’m pretty open to ideas but ideally it would be something a bit interesting.

Or

Get a replacement for the DS3. She’s less tight than me and would want something newer so probably budget of 12-16k. She has said she doesn’t want an estate. She would like something electric but I think unless anyone knows of any really good finance, they are out of budget.

The only thing we have come up with so far is a discovery sport but worries about Land Rover reliability.

Sorry for the wall of text, thanks in advance for any suggestions

Something like this? Plenty of dog space and no wet dog stink issues. You are getting a lab after all...!

How about a Suzuki Carry 4x4? Good for carrying all the dog bits as well as the dogs, along with a sliding door and tail gate for scrambling in and out of etc. Parts are easy to get and cheap to run

Like them both but unfortunately classed as commercial vehicles, means would cost me a 10er a go to commute… clean air zone

Not much bigger than the Jimmy, but probably enough bigger without rear seats.

If it's your budget then the RX300 or Subaru Tribeca:

With the OH's budget you could get a nice ULEZ/CAZ compliant Infiniti SUV:

Thanks zx, tbh had forgotten all about infinity. Used to work in car rental and was surprised at their quality, the q30 was comparable to the a class.

They make a lot of sense at the higher part of your budget, there's also the FX & QX70, their interiors are comparable to the Germans:

I'd be looking at a VW caddy Maxi or Transit Connect
