Currently own a Fiesta ST180 2014 reg, have had it a year on the MP215 upgrade and has around 21k miles on the clock and paid £11.5k for it.

Looking to now get a auto DSG MK6 VW GOLF GTI for a more 'grown up' drive, i.e. more comfortable ride, higher quality interior, 5drs etc, but still want the high-power.

The GTI would cost £13k (would get £10.5k for my Fiesta) and has about 9k miles on the clock and is an 11 plate with FSH. Just wanted opinions on if this seems like a reasonable trade for the things I'm looking for to change? I would assume the GTI would be ever so slightly faster aswell.

Love to hear thoughts on this.

I would guess the fiesta would be the quicker car, maybe even still after a remap on the Golf if that’s your plan.
Your almost into Mk7 territory for that money.
Considered something like a newer Megane?

I'd go for a higher mileage mk7 Golf GTI, it's a better car.

You may be surprised to hear this but I'd say take a look at the Astra GTC VXR:

If it has to be five doors then the Peugeot Sport 308 GTI 270 is the pick:

Giulietta Cloverleaf not as sweet a steer as the 308 above but it's a nice place to be:

I agree the Mk7 is definitely going to feel like more of a significant upgrade. What are they now though... they were beginning to drop down into £14k territory when I was looking pre-covid, but I'm sure they've spiked now!

Think with £13k it will be well over 100k miles + or Cat write off unless OP can do some strong haggling.

Did the MK7 come out in 2014?

I personally wouldn't swap the ST for a Mk6 GTI. Especially not at £13K, I paid that for my 2013 MK7 with 45,000 miles over 3 years ago with 1 owner a FSH with a year warranty.

If you could stretch to a mk7 GTI I'd recommend doing so only based on your brief. I love the ST and its certainly more fun and characterful than the GTI.

As standard my mk7 GTI was quicker than both my neighbour and brother in laws fiesta ST's one was m215 and the other Revo. Stick a Revo remap on the GTI and it a vastly different level of speed.
