Next Move, what to get?

I’m currently in a 2020 Seat Leon Cupra which is due to go back in September ( or before if i need to).

The other half has a 2021 Volvo XC60 so we are sorted for family holidays etc.

I’m celebrating a big birthday next year so the other half has signed off on me getting something I’ve always wanted.

I’ve always fancied a Range Rover Sport, don’t need one for the size at all but just fancied one.

The brand new one has a fairly decent lease deal knocking about but it’s likely going to be 12 months + wait.

So I’ve started looking at the used market.

I can’t decide if I’d be better with 4-5 year old Range Rover sport or a nearly new/new Velar? Thoughts?

Or is this a ridiculous move due to poor reliability?

The last 5 cars I’ve had have been brand new, so going used is a change for me.

Other cars I’ve briefly looked at are Porsche Cayenne/macan

On a flip side I was also looking away Mercedes CLA 35 or 45, but the other half laughed and said that was madness to consider alongside a Range Rover :-)

range rover sports are great cars. go for a used one from cinch/cazoo and purchase the 2 year warranty for peace of mind.

even if you buy an x5/q7 etc etc you'll still be looking at range rovers.

The Range Rover isn't going to be 'special' IMHO. And I would not consider a used one personally after dealing with JLR UK for warranty stuff before.

You are coming from a potent hot hatch, so consider the performance you are going to loose out on if you do opt for a big Chelsea tractor.

Porsche option will no doubt feel more special, hard to advise without knowing budget etc.

I have had 3 Range Rovers (3.6 TDV8 320, 3.6 TDV8 322)and quite frankly can’t think of a better car to replace the current L405 4.4SDV8 Autobiography with.

Buy as new as you can, put a warranty on it for peace of mind and have some of the finest motoring that’s available on this planet before you are not allowed to.

If a Range Rover Sport is what you've always wanted, IMHO it'd be worth waiting for the new one.

I think the outgoing gen will look and feel quite dated once the new one hits the streets, so won't feel as special and may also depreciate quite a bit. Whereas the new gen will feel special for a bit. Plus it's a Land Rover, so you want all the warranty you can get!

I agree with the above, get the new one ordered and wait for it to arrive.

Either extend your current car or buy something for the interim.

You'll be kicking your self in 12-18 months if you go for an older one when you really wanted a new one.

If you're set on a JLR product and the FFRR is a bit rich for your blood then the Velar is in a better place in its lifecycle than the RRS. Just don't get a 4 cylinder version.

Is it a large SUV you want?

If you want a RRS, only that will do.

Budget?

Jeep GC SRT or Trackhawk would be my suggestion

I'd say go & test drive a Grand Cherokee Trackhawk as they definitely feel special:

Now a special leftfield option then the Maserati Levante Trofeo with it's Ferrari derived twin turbo V8 is a bit special:

I like this idea, "while you can" is right, although reliability issues scare me off a little

If you get a RR, would you still need the Volvo? If I were going away, I know which I would prefer to travel in.

Of the 3 I’ve had covering tens of thousands of miles, selling my first one at 147,000 I had no major issues, keep it serviced and don’t kick the arse out of it.

My current L405 AB SDV8 had issues when new, all rectified under warranty and nothing since, now at 63,000.

That's the missus car and its only 1 year into a 3 year lease. The point is valid and i think maybe the RR's time might be to replace that instead of now to replace the Cupra.

Having said that, with prices as they are, im not sure what to do really.

I think i'm shelving the RRS. the lease deals are not price protected and although good for the list price, i cant convince myself to spend that on a car. This is before consider ill be lucky to get one in the next 12 months.

An older RRS feels like a silly purchase.

Been looking again at the CLA35, anyone have any thoughts on them?

Is it madness to lease one at 550-600 a month?

ive also looked at PCPing a car using lloyds 4.9%, would need to be 2020 or newer and around 40-45k. Again is this madness?

Nobody can define madness - if you want it and can afford it, go for it.

I think you need to narrow down what it is you want though - have you been indecisive with your previous cars or just now you've been given carte blanche?

Choose new or used, set a budget and start shortlisting models, otherwise you'll never make a decision.

I can be indecisive when making decisions like this, I seem to thrive on the research and the chase as opposed to purchase itself.

Last 3 cars i've bought/leased have mainly because of the deal. A5 sportback and A5 Cab new on PCP, as i had a mate at the dealership and the discounts were insane. Then my current lease is the Cupra, again the deal was too good to turn down.

Now we are in a situation where a discount or good deals seem to be non-existent. Some nearly new cars are selling for above their list price!!

I wouldn't. Had a A35 for a couple of years on a lease (339 a month on a 3+35 when cars were cheap!) and it didn't feel special nor particularly fun. I definitely wouldn't have one at those figures but others may like them enough to warrant it.

Buy a 911, low depreciation and four seats. Will cost less than the interest on the PCP deal.

4 seats but 2 of which no one can fit in. my eldest is nearly 6ft at 14.
