Toyota hybrid batteries replacement costs

Hi All,

I'm considering getting myself a hybrid Toyota of some kind due to the savings on tax and petrol (live in London, short runs etc).

Does anyone have experience of battery replacements on Gen 2 Priuses (the 1.5) and Gen 3 (the 1.8) or the Auris (1.8)?

Am thinking of potentially going down the non-main dealer route and if the internet is correct on battery costs it may be worth it to save a few '000s on the purchase price.

On the other hand, is this the type of vehicle I should just get from Toyota with the full warranties in place and just pay the money and get on with it?

I’ve got an 11 year old Lexus hybrid and it’s never had anything less than a clean bill of health battery wise.
It’s used every day as the family bus and we’ve had it 7 years now.

Personally I’d stay in the Toyota universe purchase wise as an extra assurance but you’d likely be ok regardless.
A zillion Uber drivers can’t be wrong.

There is a 15 year warranty on their batteries as long as you have it checked annually.If they do go they cost less than a clutch and dual mass flywheel on a normal car.My local taxi firm runs loads of prius and they expect to de fleet them at @700,000 miles and have one battery change during that time.Toyota and Lexus batteries are rock solid.

Just bought a 2010 today with full dealer history and hybrid checks.

Catloc to be fitted on Monday and hoping it all goes well until then...

Good to know as I will be 150 years old before I need my battery changed.

You can have the car independently serviced. They're not complicated on the mechanical side. The electrical side rarely gives trouble. You can then get the annual hybrid system check at a Toyota dealer separately for about £60ish. Keep doing this until the car is 15 years old.
Or just get the whole lot done in one go at Toyota. They do a discount scheme for cars over a certain age.
If you do get battery trouble, hybrid battery solutions in Northampton is well respected.
