Daily commute help ideas

This probably has been covered but I'm lto lazy to search.

Will be in the market soon for a daily commute car.
Four or five door. Saloon or estate
Decent mpg diesel or petrol.
Auto will consider manual.

Rust is a massive turn off. So anything that rots fast or for no reason is out.

Would like it possible to chuck about occasionally don't want it mega boring.

And mechanically reliable. Or at least easy to work on.

3k or less. The less the better. lol.
