I bought my car 3 1/2 years ago, I bought it from a private seller.

I’ve just come to sell it and the ad was removed from one website as it was either stolen, written off or had finance in it.
I’ve paid for a HPI check and it’s come back that it was written off, Category B in 1996. It was built in 1996. I had no idea it was written off until I’ve done this check, I’ve been driving it around everyday since of bought it and never had any issues with the police.

Couple of a questions:
A. What can I do and who do I need to contact?
B. Should the insurance companies I’ve used not of picked this up?

A: No one, you're on your own.
B: No, they don't do an HPI check at the point of your policy inception
