Selling on almost new car??
Discussion
I have an EV on order from 18 months ago which I forgot about as I put small deposits down on 3 EVs over the the last year due to the long waiting times.
The dealer called last week saying it might (finally) be available towards the end of this year and I should be one of the first to get the new model.
I know this might upset some here but... If i went ahead with the order, and wanted to sell it on and make a little ££, does being the second owner for the new buyer make much difference even if the mileage is under 100 miles.
I'll be scalping yes, but I won't be the only one and that seems to be how things are right now with all the shortages, waiting times, delays etc.
I'm not set on doing this yet and just thinking out loud (plus it does seem a bit of hassle unless selling on to dealer rather than a private sale) but as someone who dabbles in stocks, crypto etc, it does seem like a similar sort of thing except this a physical item I'm potentially trading.

I doubt the dealer will facilitate you selling your slot but if you cancel I doubt they will care anyway as there will be another in the so called queue to take your place.
As such to make a profit you will need to take physical delivery and then sell.
Again I doubt the dealer will assist in this so you’ll then need to sell privately or perhaps find a dealer prepared to facilitate - maybe on SOR.
But unless it’s a special /rare /limited EV I’m not sure the hassle is worth it for the small amount I think you would make.
Unless you plan on doing the same with all 3 of your orders.

Worth doing particularly if you got in before prices / grants / etc changed.
Even my Leaf is worth a couple of grand more than I paid a few months later.
Motorway, WBAC and the like can mean a hassle free sale.
Would WBAC/Motorway etc pay over RRP price though?Even my Leaf is worth a couple of grand more than I paid a few months later.

Right now, there are less than 10 cars nationwide on Autotrader and all are second hand with 4k+ miles.
Just seen previous posters reply whilst typing - Motorway etal will need to make their profit from the purchase so a couple of grand will get whittled down.
Obviously a profit is not be taken lightly in this day and age but I query whether the hassle is worth it which of course to the OP it may be.

I may well have an Enyaq coming soon that I won't want (as I'd rather have the Tesla I've also ordered). Assuming the actually deliver what is ordered it will have some nice options you can't even spec any more like the 360 cameras. It's obviously cheaper than current list as the price was locked in last December. I don't need the few thousand but I'd rather share that with someone that give it all to the dealer…

Except if you cancel the order the dealer will keep 100% of any margin they make and they won’t ( I doubt ) do a deal with you to share.
So you’d have to take delivery and then sell yourself.
If you cannot even spec one like yours then yes you might have a chance of a profit.
I suppose the question is if I turned up on the day and asked to register it to someone else how much of a fuss would they kick up? Is it worth the hassle or do I just cancel and get my deposit back (which they said I could do when I ordered). If the Yaq is available first do I just buy it, run it for a few months waiting for the Tesla then sell it? So many options! So you’d have to take delivery and then sell yourself.

Don’t forget trying to plan for what the market is like by year end won’t add to the ease of any decision.
If supply etc improves and the car is a relatively standard production model then factory orders at list ( I doubt a discount though ) will be seen again - maybe.
But list now is a couple of thousand more than list was in December last year. So there is some built-in margin there 🙂If supply etc improves and the car is a relatively standard production model then factory orders at list ( I doubt a discount though ) will be seen again - maybe.
Robbied , my guess is they will simply refuse because it will be hassle for them and cost them money.
I’m not sure this type is of car is subject to the flipping that some dealers actually support because that’s how they operate - allegedly.
You could take delivery and then decide to sell as mentioned earlier but that’s when the gamble starts obviously.

You could try and sell it for overs when it arrives, being a one-owner delivery miles car shouldn't make a huge difference to the inherent value
There is the risk that the market stabilises between now and delivery, and you're left in a very expensive bath. Also bear in mind that trade values aren't the same as advertised values, so a car for sale at list + £5k may only net you list price back in your pocket

Yep, is a gamble for sure and big money. Looking at whats available now though it just seems a no brainer to me.I’m not sure this type is of car is subject to the flipping that some dealers actually support because that’s how they operate - allegedly.

So few on Autotrader and most have a 3-5k mark up with mileage and some having x2 owners already meaning they've been flipped once already.
