Thoughts on 320d shadow edition 75k mileage?

Looking to replace my work car and opt out to get my own. I have seen a 320d shadow edition with 75000 on the clock, I have read good and bad reviews on high mileage BMWs.
Should I go for it?

It's a 68 plate I know its probably a reps car with alot of motorway miles just wanted to see people's thoughts on here.
Read alot of comments else where saying stay away from bmw with 70+ on the clock, they get alot of problems and that's why there is a load of them for sale with that mileage.

Every car gets lots of problems when you read around, because nobody takes the effort to say their car is working OK.

The typical problems diesels get is often associated with low mileage use, so that obviously wouldn't be an issue here. Obviously age related wear will be minimal. So then you are just down to bad luck things that go wrong.

I bought a 75k 2017 audi a4 estate 18 months ago and now up to 94k. It wass a sales reps car and had been serviced as it should have, which basically meant every 6 months for previous owner! No problems for me so far!

A 68 plate 320D assuming it's been serviced correctly will probably have less issues than a low mileage 320D of the same age because its likely been doing regular long runs which is what a diesel engine needs

Regular oil changes are the key for diesel engines - even better owners who do an interim oil change between the recommended ones.

If it's an auto (ZF 8 speed) then it is getting to the stage where is will need a flush and new transmission fluid. Many people don't but ZF recommend it.

That’s a lot of car for the money. It’s quite new as a 2019 car… will the AA provide a 12m warranty on it?

I’d say go for it.

Since it’s newer than 2015, it has the B47D20 diesel engine, which has better reliability than the old N47 engine.

You do know this car has an outstanding safety recall that hasn’t been addressed?

Not had a look yet, but I’m sure you can find something better for the money.

If you do decide to go for it, remember to purchase a V Check to make sure the car hasn’t been crashed/clocked/used as a taxi.

That's a lot of money for something you'll struggle to shift for more than half that in 40k miles (or 3.5 years use).

I got a 330d F31 for wayyyy less than that.

For cars that age/mileage, might be worth looking into the extended BMW warranty rather than a 3rd party one:

Just to add to this point- the safety recall is the EGR valve on seemingly all diesel BMWs, this one came out a week or two ago. Both my car and my girlfriends car are affected, she has been contacted by BMW but I haven't yet. Not necessarily a reason to be concerned with this one not being done yet.

You can’t go too wrong with a 3 series, they’re generally pretty reliable machines. My wife has had a 68 plate 320i from new which has done 70k+ miles and it has been very reliable.

The only minor problem we had was what felt like slipping from the gear box, which a simple software update seemed to fix.

I think by then they sorted the timing chain issue.
