2012-2015 Mondeo Estate 2.2 diesel
Discussion
Hi all,
A friend of mine is potentially looking at purchasing a Titanium X Sport Mondeo Estate, ideally with the 2.2 diesel paired with a manual box. The Powershift has plenty of its own bad press. A brief look on the web doesn't show up any horror stories, but just thought I'd ask the good folk of PH on his behalf if there's anything to look out for when buying, or if they have any alternatives he could look at instead.
There seems to be a few available for between 9-12k on decent miles, all looking in great condition. Thoughts on these cars?
Cheers.

Great cars. We have the weaker 2.0TDCi 163 engine in traditional Titanium X spec (2012 62 plate) estate form, rather than Sport and I have been very happy with it for the 16 months I have had it. I must say prices have shot up if you're looking at £9k-12k for the 2.2. I know Sport + 2.2 commands a premium but I paid £4.5k from a small dealer for mine and it has the Windsor pleather and sat nav options. Not sure the 2.2 is really worth such an uplift but that is just my opinion as it is still just a 4 cylinder. For up 12k you could get a very nice F11 530d with the ZF8.
But back on point Mondeo mk4.5s are great cars. Lovely to drive and massively comfortable and spacious. We have just got back from 1k miles in Europe in ours and it was excellent at swallowing family clobber for a holiday and munching the miles. It isn't the fastest thing but is adequate. Might be worth double checking if the 2.2 is a conventional torque converter auto rather than a Powershift. I am sure I have read on here they are. Someone more knowledgeable than me will be along soon to confirm.

I have one, I paid £5600 for it last year. It’s the 2.2 auto. The auto boxes in these are the Aisin torque converter box, zf8 it certainly ain’t, it works but can sometimes get itself in a pickle.
My rear suspension needs sorting, but it’s cost me a centre section for the exhaust- the rear boxes also fall off but so far mine haven’t, a throttle body and a battery.
Cambelt is 10 years 112000 miles, mines due. I’ve carried out a service, changed the gearbox oil and swapped the head unit
They are underrated cars and big - 5 series big, I’d like a 330d touring but the boot space isn’t as good but the gearbox is much better.

I think you are confusing the terms exclusive and unpopular.
Well maybe, but I think the buying public simply got pulled in with cheap finance deals for ze German marquees at the time. The mk4 Mondeo was well known for being a fantastic car to drive. He's still looking and seems to have only eyes for the Mondeo... Shame the Estate variants are so much pricier than the saloons (or I suppose hatchback..)
