I ordered an E-Pace back in January and I signed the PCP paperwork and paid the deposit.
8 months later, I’ve gone to check the car over and they’re now saying that because ‘prices and PCP rates have gone up’, I’m required to pay a bigger deposit as the car is worth £10k more.
When questioned they said that the cost price of the car (to the dealer - Listers) has increased (because the car has taken 8 months to be manufactured???) they have to offset some of that cost by increasing the PCP deposit.

Apparently there’s some clause in the reams of paperwork that justifies this.

Are they yanking my chain do you think?

Judging by forums, lots of this going on with JLR product - especially new Range Rover and Defender.

In some cases dealers are demanding more money, in others they are holding to original price. As others have said, it will completely depend on the Ts and Cs you have signed.

Does not feel fair to me from a consumer perspective that deals can be reneged upon due to the manufacturer being unable to supply the product in a timely manner…but that is the world we are living in right now.

Wasn't someone else waiting for a Land Rover who had paid a deposit but it had taken so long to turn up that the price had gone up and he was asked for more money for a model with less options as they couldn't get any chips.

Seems like a JLR policy.

I waited a year for my Mustang GT and the list price had gone up 4 times by the time mine finally made it to the UK, plus the road tax had gone up too.

I still paid the price I had signed for a year earlier.

If you walk away they'll easily sell the car to someone else at the increased price.
Win win for them

And if somethings happens where the car suddenly loses say £20k value before you get it, will they adjust it again in your favour? Watch them laugh.

If you can get your deposit back, I would tell them to shove it. I'm sure there are far better cars than the E-Pace out there.

I ordered my Defender November 2021 from Marshall’s in Cheltenham. This was after a dealer in Droitwich you may know of failed to tell me the price of my specific vehicle had increased twice in the 4 weeks I tried to get them to take my order.
Marshall’s were brilliant and fixed the price gave me 4% off to bring the price to October 2021 levels and other freebies worth £500+.

I took delivery in June and they honoured the price. The car had risen from £60k to over £75k.
They did tell me they couldn’t fix the price if I ordered another. I was going to but decided I couldn’t justify potentially over £80k for the same car next time.

I’m lucky and paid cash so if I wanted could sell for a huge profit but don’t want to as I love the car.

Tell them to shove it. Wait 6 - 12 months and they’ll be begging you at any price.

You will have signed an order form not pcp paperwork. did they proposal your finance at the time ? if so the deal should be as was as it was a finance acceptance and the jag would usually honour that.

If i were you i would be contact jag direct and ask if this information is correct, to me it sounds like they have let the finance acceptance lapse and now they cant put the deal to its original figures.

I have 3 customers with finance acceptances on cars at the moment been waiting 5 months ish, Have to keep going into the finance acceptance and telling Suzuki these deals are still happening and do not remove the offers.

Thank you very much all for your replies -

on the updated order form it now states:

JLR Account Id: xxxxxxxx Configuration Code: xxxxxxxxxx NEW
CARS ONLY- Vehicle specification, on the road pricing, finance offers,
FL and APR's are indicative at the point of order. Due to
macroeconomic factors, such as cost of inflation, pricing, specification
changes and cost of finance, these are all subject to change
dependent on when the vehicle is available to handover. Part
exchange price and settlement figure to be recalculated for the
month of delivery.

Obviously nothing like that on the original order form!

Looking at the price changes from 8 months ago, the basic price has increased by £988, the options price has increased by £375 so add the VAT increase and the on the road price has gone up by £1685 (road fund license has gone up by £50 but that's not their fault!).

Having a gander at the options, they are all identical to the original except they are now charging £375 for 'ebony suedecloth headlining' where it was a zero cost option before! WTAF!

As the car is for my wife, she went into the dealership a few days ago (whilst I was away with work) and they got her to sign a declaration to the effect of she's not allowed to sell the car for 90 days!

Interestingly enough, it's my name on the order form (& finance) so not sure how that would stand up legally if I were to pursue that particular issue!

Unfortunately, my wife really likes the car so we're committed to getting it but I'm seriously not impressed with what they are doing frown

Yep, we did the finance a few days later & did all the acceptance stuff & signed on the bottom line but haven't been sent any documentation to that effect. Unfortunately Covid got in the way of doing it all face-to-face!

On the latest order form though, the finance amount is the same as the order form back in January....

Lol the 90 day thing, its not enforceable and its upto you what you do with your own car.

Ok the options i get i can understand the cost going up all in all sounds ok for the price of the vehicle.

Dealer getting your mrs to sign something though, shambles

I believe the phrase they used was 'we shouldn't but it doesn't really matter'!
Obviously not if it's not enforceable :-)

One of the good things to come out of it is that I'm part ex'ing an old Mondeo where theyve given a fairly good trade in price for.
When the Mrs took it round for them to look over they saw the large dent where someone had reversed into it, a hole in the back of the car where I reversed into a mates fence (& knocked it down) and a reasonably damaged rear bumper where the back box fell off & tore the trim away!

I was going to tart it up before taking it in to make these 'damages' less conspicuous but had never passed that info to my wife!
The dealership has honoured the part-ex price so that has made me feel better wink

to be fair they sound reasonable, I have heard some horror stories from our own customers with how some garages have acted over this delay period with new cars.

Good luck buddy

So the dealer is a rogue for passing on a manufacturers price/APR increase, but you're happy to stiff them with a PX that is damaged?

Ok.....................

Stiff them?
Not at all - they didn’t have to take the car as Part Ex or they could have reduced the amount they are willing to give me for it.
So no, you’re completely incorrect.

This isn't just a JLR thing it's across the board & depends on dealer groups, some are locking in the prices some aren't.
It seems your dealer is being pretty fair overall
