So, £30k weekend car...

So, I'm about ready for an addition to the garage, consisting of something that needs to do nothing in particular. Got an estate, got an EV, got a modern classic, got a daily - so something for the weekend?!

Circa £30-35k budget.

So far, thoughts, in preference order, are:

Tuscan
Atom (although SWMBO says no)
AMV8 (manual)
F-Type
Exige
Granturismo (4.7)
R35

Also, I'm not a Porsche fan.

I'd go Tuscan - yes I know the possible borkage factor is huge, and they're deeply flawed, but you have a good fleet to tide you over if it does. Very special things capable of putting a huge smile on your face.

Do you want to be able to use it year round? If so then from your list I’d have the f type or the Aston Martin.

I’ve had an Exige, and currently have an Elise. While you obviously can use them in the winter, it’s not much fun. In fairness, this is in Scotland where there’s more salt on the roads and those cold, crisp sunny days are a bit rarer. Same probably for the TVR and the Atom.

If it’s not an issue, then you should consider an Elise. £30k will get you a very good Series 1 of any flavour (Sport 135 would be my choice if you can find one) or else a nice S2 or 3. Unless you’re going to track it I’d pick this over an Exige.

Agreed, given the rest of the OP's garage, a light car will be a great contrast to the other vehicles. I'd be trying a Tuscan if there is no interest in track days.

I’d be tempted with a £30k Aston but I guess it depends how much you have in reserve in case a huge bill pops up.

Are you looking for a drive or a waft at the weekends? Have you looked at XKRs rather than F-Type?

If it were my money I’d be getting an R33GTR or an R35 GTR but I’ll concede I’m massively biased.

I think if you've got an EV, outright speed like a modded r35 is probs not the best bet.

Tuscan looks and sounds amazing - would just need one where the speed 6 engine has already been sorted to avoid any unwanted bills.

I'd say barring the atom, a caterham seems like the one that'd give you the biggest sense of occasion, followed by the Exige. I've got a Honda SC Elise and it's bonkers, yet probs not quite as raw or an event as a caterham would be. If it's a 4th car, it doesn't need to be in any way practical

I may be slightly biased but another vote here for the Tuscan

Despite being some 20 years old it still looks/sounds epic and never fails to leave a smile every time you take it for a drive. I still believe that theyre ridiculously good value for money when you look at the performance you get...plus don't believe everything you hear about reliability and massive bills. Yes, there are some that have become money pits...but in equal measure there are plenty that cost nothing more to run/maintin than any comparable sports/performance car.
