Golf GTD rival with improved NVH sought

So, I have a 2017 Golf GTD, it's amazing all round car, manual box, goes very well, delivers 50mpg with ease, costs little to maintain, looks good small'ish size so what's not to like? Anyone who's had one will know just how good they are.
But I do around 30k per year commuting and business miles and being 65 I'd appreciate a bit more comfort that a Golf can't offer even though it's not bad. I have a budget of up to £30k to replace it and can't quite think of anything that would give me the same all round ability but better in the NVH department.
P.S Not looking for another Golf this time round and must be an ICE powered, none of this new fangled stuff

Something with a six cylinder diesel, say a BMW 330D ?
In SE spec to avoid harder suspension/bigger wheels and the comfort trade offs they bring.
Maybe something from Lexus, a Jag XF might be a bit big after a Golf but would cover the NVH angle, again aim for a six rather than a four as aside from being a bigger car, sixes are just inherently smoother.

For £30k there must be thousands of options. C-Class, 3-series, A4, Passat.... next size up from those with E-Class etc. Something SUV-ey to hopefully make the knackered roads feel a little smoother. Tiguan? X3? All available with similarly economical diesel (or petrol!) engines...
The mk7 Golf was great for NVH and ride suity. Admittedly the GTD version may have taken some of that comfort away. But I'd say they're not far off a 3-series. X3's have notoriously poor ride comfort. As much as I like big engines and would love to recommend a 540D, I think the sensible way to go is an E220D on small wheels with the acoustic comfort package.

My problem is the GTD is a diesel version of a Golf Gti so pretty good to drive, sharp handling etc etc and I can't see an E220d/Passat and the like being anything close to this. I'd like to keep the PH feel rather than a cruiser type car.

Comfort is not my first priority, it's the NVH (Noise/Vibration/Harshness) that I want to improve but still get the sportiness of a Golf GTD and all the attributes it brings.
330D is on my list but I prefer the looks of the M Sport over the SE but potentially poor quality bump absorption is the play off. I'm struggling to come up with much else for £30k or thereabouts.

I think this, or one of these would tick many of the boxes you have for way under £30k leaving plenty of room for any work you may want to do to it.

If its not too big then a V90 is ultra comfortable and refined, even as a diesel, and almost drives itself. Bargain used. I drive one of these, comfort and performance is perfect for A-road and motorway use. It's a long way from a Golf GTD for chuckability and narrow city/country traffic though. You just can't attack a narrow wet roundabout the same way with such a barge. Even the 330D suffers a little in the handling department with the boat anchor up front compared to a 328/330I, but the dimensions and weight are more manageable.
The 3.0D is a great compromise for character/sound and consumption though, as long as you're it doing too many short trips. My E90 & F31 320D's sounded very harsh when giving it the beans, while the 6-cylinder unit makes a pleasant sound at all RPM's.

Have you considered a V60 Polestar?
Uses a Mondeo chassis and has Ohlins coilovers so should handle well.
It's a Volvo so should be fairly well built, you also get digital TFT instruments and a decent sound system
