Couldnt find another suitable subforum to post this but here goes

I'm a Brit living in the US. I have been waiting to buy an S550 Bullitt but the used prices are still insane (approx $5k less than they were new at best). With that in mind I have been looking at alternatives in my price range and have narrowed it down to:

2015 ish Jaguar F type V6
2008-2011 Maserati Granturismo.

At the moment I'm leaning towards the Jaguar as I've always liked the styling, especially the back end and they are apparently a better drivers car. Cons are it's only a 2 seater and maybe doesn't have the 'wow' factor of a Maserati.

Cons for the Maserati are upkeep costs (even if I do most of the work myself), they are big, heavy and apparently aren't great to drive, plus the interior is outdated. But it is an italian supercar, and how many of those would I get to own in my life?

I'd appreciate fellow PH'ers thoughts. At the moment I'm inclined to go with the F type. There is an example of both cars at a dealer ship near me so will take a look this weekend.

If you want the drives to be an event but perfectly capable then the Maserati is a clear winner here.

The F Type, however good of a car is after all just a Jag and a V6 at that. Even the V8 lacks the soul of the Maserati.

Personally, I’d go for a Maserati Granturismo S MC Shift.

It really depends how you want to use the car. If you want to use it mainly on the motorway, the Maserati is supreme. If you want to use it for weekend blasts, go for the Jag.

MC is out of my budget by a considerable amount. I will get a better idea of which I like more when I see them in person, but my budget would get me a base or S model.

It's going to be a weekend blast car, so the Jag has the edge.

I had a similar dilemma a couple of years ago - made slightly easier for me by the Jaguar dealer being somewhat disorganised. I went to test drive a V8 Supercharged F-Type - having made an appointment - and when I got there it was sold. The guys attitude completely stunk, so I went off the idea of an F-Type and was firmly fixed on a Maserati. I have no regrets.

My local Jaguar dealer put my name on a list somewhere and I was invited to an experience day when the new F-Type was launched. It was a great day, and you got to drive various F-Type models on a test track pretty much without restrictions. However, I left that day still very happy that I'd bought a Maserati.

Thank you, great to have input from someone who has driven both. It is to be expected of course but Maserati owners say get the GT, and Jaguar owners say get the F type. As I say I'm going to view and drive a few examples of each and see which I prefer, I think that is the clincher.

Having personally known 4 people who have had Maserati buy back their cars via Lemon Laws in California (some with very dangerous experiences), I would never own a Maserati. Having had a Jaguar 5.0L XKR for nearly 10 years and 200,000 miles of nearly carefree wonderful driving, I'd go with a Jag all day long over a Maserati. I've not had a V6 Jag, but reports on the Jaguar forum have been very favorable. I'd like to see anyone who has had a 200,000 miles Maserati and that still drives it everyday, tracks it often, and enjoys it still as I do my XKR. It doesn't exist.

As someone who owned the Granturismo and loved it,and was on the list for an F type until I drove it,I’d 100 % agree.
And I’m a life long Jag fan and still own one,so I’m not anti Jaguar.

They both sound great, but the GT sounds ‘purer’ and less contrived IMO.

So that’s what I did smile

It is big and heavy, but still good fun to hustle.

Budget to upgrade the infotainment and x-pipe and just drive it driving
